Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Drying up Mothers milk

My litter is now 5½ weeks old and the mother has just about stopped feeding them now - they only manage to feed off her for a few minutes each day as they hang off her when she is checking them.  The problem is she appears to be producing a lot of milk still.  Does anyone have any tips on how to stop her producing the milk or how I get it to start drying up - or is it just a natural process that will happen itself.  As she is producing a lot of milk she is quite hard underneath which cannot be comfortable and when she lies down the milk comes out.  Any tips would be greatly received.

My girl sadly lost her litter at 7 weeks pregnant, but had lots of milk.  My vet said to try and restrict how much she drinks..........also the more your pups feed, even if it's only the once the more milk she will produce. My vet said not to touch her belly/boobs as this only induces more milk production, we left her alone and within a couple of days her boobs started shrinking and milk dried up.
