Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / mounting each other
- By mitch [gb] Date 09.07.04 21:26 UTC
My 16 month dog and 9 month old bitch keep humping each other.
My bitch finished her first season about 2 weeks ago, so I'm presuming this has something to do with it, as I've never seen either of them do it before.
I expected a male to try it on when he can smell a bitch in season, but didn't think they bothered at other times. He's never done it to my other bitch at any time.
Why does the bitch do it, Is it hormones, will they settle back down in time, or is this always going to happen now. It seems to happen mostly when they are playing and fun fighting, then leads to one mounting the other, they don't seem to care who mounts who.
If I see them, I tell them off, and make them come in.
I hope the novelty wears off soon.

It's normal behaviour. My 9-year-old spayed bitch humps her 4-year-old brother after supper. Every night.

My boys are more democratic than that - they take turns at humping each other after supper.  Every night :D  Don't worry Mitch, there's a lot of it about :)

My girl has just lost a litter, the past couple of days SHE has been humping our dog too!  I suppose it could be something to do with her hormones, poor love is completely confused,

Sparky tries his best with his little westie friend when we go round to let her out at lunchtimes. She usually ends up slipping out from between his back legs, poor lamb, and Sparky looks up as if to say "Where did she go?"

I just had to come in here and have a look at Champdogs, simply because I cannot stand to watch Millie trying to hump her hippo any longer, its driving me nuts!

If its any consolation, my two bitches hump each other regularly, expecially when there are lots of people around....!!

Ellis's hormone's are just kicking in and he's always humping Bronnie now, but I bet I can go one better............

Imagine the scene, friends round sitting in living room having drink, dogs sprawled on carpet asleep and Ellis ............. oh god no........... having a wet dream..

How embarrising is that.......

My youngest girl is obsessed with bonking her older sister to the point she is getting irrate.  The boy just gives her bum a occasional sniff.

Can a dog really have a "wet dream"??? I've never heard of such a thing! Does it really happen or are you all just being silly?

As Millie started doing it days before she came into season, i thought it was season-related but see from here that even older spayed females do it.

However, is the occurence likely to decrease after the season, does anyone think?  I ask because Millie is doing it constantly from about 8pm till midnight, every night, on anything she can get her hands on.  I admire her stamina, but its getting rather tiring!  I was hoping it might stop altogether once we have her spayed - but see from here that it won't! - but is it likely to become a less frequent occurence?

I see now my question is quite similar to the original poster's question, so sorry about that, but I think the difference is my question is that I realise she will do it for the rest of her life probably, as its something that bitches do, just like boys, but four hours a night of humping is getting a bit much, even for her, she's wearing herself out, and once the season is over and her hormones settle down a bit, will it become a random, once in a while exercise or is she likely to keep up 4 hours a night for as long as she has the energy to do it?

Granted, this may also have to do with excess energy due to the fact she isn't getting proper walks at present, but even yesterday after a 20 min walk each way to and from the groomers, 2 and a half hours in there (she normally comes back knackered) and a busy evening with visitors, and not even a little doze all day and evening, and it was clear to see how tired she was from her rattiness, she still managed to get a lot of humping in, and was still humping her teddy on our bed at 12.30 whilst we were trying to sleep.

Not being silly, he has had 2 wet dreams, but at least the second one we didn't have people round..........

I second that, how do you do the smiley faces please.

four hours does seem a bit excessive. Mine just have the odd few minutes sometimes several times a day, but it is certainly worse nearer to a season. Hope it improves for you it must wear you out just watching.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.07.04 19:44 UTC
She does seem to be a tad OTT with her humping! If you feel it's becoming an obsession you'll just have to stop her. Just firmly say "No!" and remove the object of her desires - at night, don't let her have access to your teddy; keep her in her bed/crate. A few minutes humping is fine, but then an instruction "That'll do!", "Enough!" or "Pack it in!" may be necessary. Don't let her become obsessional.

I say 'no' and she looks straight through me!  Or stops for a minute and pretends to chew her teddy then starts on it again.  I have tried removing the favourite humping toys but that's ok, a nearby arm or leg will do! (fortunately not mine - I'm the only person she hasn't attempted it with yet!).  We noticed last night than once we turned the light right off and pretended to go to sleep she jumped down on to her bed, had a few more minutes humping then went to sleep - unfortunately she won't step foot in her cage so that won't work.  But unless we were to go to bed at 8pm (which we will probably end up doing soon, lol) there's nothing that will stop her. I keep trying to find things to keep her entertained, lots of toys and stuff but she just ends up humping them all, footballs, small softballs, soft toys,...its not constanly for four hours....she will stop for a couple of minutes...and then carry on....go for a drink....come back and carry on lol.

Randy moo!

Have you tried removing all her soft toys?
- By mitch [gb] Date 15.07.04 07:38 UTC
My problem with humping dogs, now seems small compared with some of yours. :D
At least mine only do it with each other, and only on occasions, which I stop straight away.
They tend to do it when they are on their own, they must no I don't like it.
Apart from when they were tiny pups, they have never done it to toys, blankets etc, which I am so pleased about, because to be honest I can't stand it. lol.

Lol, yes jeangenie which is why last night she was doing it to the blanket on the settee and her little football instead.

I let her have her soft toys back during the day - she will only do it after 8pm!

Dogs, eh?!!
