Can someone tell me why Great Danes ears are held up in photographs (UK); I have never seen them being shown so don't know if this happens in the show ring but if it does, can someone tell me why when other breeds with the same type of ears are not displayed this way.

Many thanks.

Curious.

Most good GD handlers don't pull their dogs ears up, I know one who does to try to find the huge badly set ears her danes have-doesn't work under good judges. Bill Siggers used to hate handlers that did that heard him once give a right rollicking to one exhibitor :O for doing so

Why do they do it?  I believe it is to simulate the crop-eared look and give a 'cleaner' look to the head.

Should they do it?  Now that's another question ;)  Entertaining to watch when you get a judge who really dislikes the practice, but none of the exhibitors are watching to notice .........

They also do it to show the length of neck of believe?

I thought that was shown by stringing them up with chokers up under the ears ;)

I have been browsing & looking at some photographs of the J A Rank Great Danes All shown on loose leads free standing ! Bet most Dane owners would love to be able to have that much control & such gorgeous dogs today

I spent a bit of time training one of my friends Danes to free stand & move on a really loose lead She is a well marked Harle & looked really good She stood out when my friend used to show her. one of the other handlers told her she should have been strung up to make her look better-he didn't like being beaten for BOB by a younger bitch LOL

I like to see them shown on loose leads too - I hate the "strung" up or "upright ears" look :)
