Hi all
This may sound like a silly question, but do some puppies look a bit different to other pups of the same breed? The reason i ask this is because i  just took Kizer our 11 week old pup to the pet shop and the guy there reckons that she must be a cross breed. He said that her coat was to long.  She also hasnt got the normal dark black mussle that mastiffs have. As the only other bullmastiff pups i have seen where her litter mates (and once one on tv) i havent got  clue as to what they would normaly look like.
She is KC reg as a bullmastiff and i saw both her parents and the rest of her litter but the guy in the shop kept saying that i was conned and when i argued the point with him he looked at me like i was thick.

Thanks debbie

Hi Debbie,
How does she (and her parents - especially her mum!) compare to the KC Breed Standard?

Hi

Her mum and dad both met breed standards, although her dad looked a bit taller, hard to tell tho as i didnt measure him. I saw both of her parenst Kc reg but i just looked at it and didn't write down any of the details from it.

As for the pup, i can send you a pic. In the coat section of the breed standard, she has the undesirable long wolly coat i guess. It is a bit longer and very very soft. Her coat is a bit like a lab puppies but not as thick.

When we bought her we were told that she wouldn't ever be able to be a show dog as her mussle had never darkened enough.

Thanks Debbie

PS. I also have pics of her mum and dad.

Hi Debbie,
I'm not a specialist in bullmastiffs, but it sounds as though your pup is a 'purely-pet' quality example. I don't mean that to sound demeaning or disparaging in any way - in all litters there are 'good' pups and 'not-so-good' ones when it comes to the breed ideal of perfection. From what you say she is a purebred, pedigreed bullmastiff, so I wouldn't worry that you have been conned. Her breeders have said why it wouldn't be worth showing (or breeding from) her, because of the lack of dark muzzle, and her coat length etc, though when she changes her puppy coat for hr adult one that may improve.

Love her as your pet, and she'll be a very lucky dog!

Hi
We bought her as a pet thats why we weren't bothered that her mussle wasn't dark, i think it gives her character.

Thanks for the advice.

Niceguy i am just going to take a look at your site now.

Thanks Debbie

Ps. Niceguy, just had a look at your bully and mine looks exactly the same except she is a slighty lighter fawn and hasn't got any black on her mussle.
Thanks again.
