Hello pple.
I am looking for a small breed of dog that is kind and good with children and other animals. Do you have any suggestions on what breeds wouldbe suitable?
Thanx. V

If you join you will be able to provide us with some more specifics that you would require.
Think about grooming, walking, if the dog will be left for a long periods of time etc.  There are lots of people here with lots of knowledge on specific breeds, so if you could let us know what breeds you had been looking into that would be great.
I have Staffies, maybe a little bit too big.  But absolutely fab with children and other animals (in my experience). :)

Agree, we need more detail, the very small breeds are not suitable if the children are young, something the size of a staffie is idea but not all staffies are good with other dogs although if well socalised most are. So why not join and let us know a bit more about your lifestyle and what you expect from your dog.

Hi
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are very very good family dogs, wonderful nature and are nice and small.
Also, cocker spaniels are excellent (mixed colour coats are often the best temperament, but they are all fab)

Good luck

Depends on how small you would like, but I would def recommend a cocker!  They have the most wonderful personalities, and love being part of a family-kids included!  All mine are wonderful with all other breeds of dogs and other pets, including cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, provided they are introduced at a young age-having said though, we got one of our working cockers at 18 months having started his field training, and he never bats an eyelid at any other pets worth chasing-just loves his frisbee!  I have both solid and mixed colours and have never found this to be an issue with regards to temperament.

For your info guest, a cocker will stand approx 39-41cms tall for dogs/38-39cms for bitches and weigh approx 13-14.5 kgs.

Also, as a side note, we have both working and show cockers- there is a difference in appearance should you wish to investigate the breed further!  Good luck find a new member of your family! :)
