I have had two dogs now with Eosinophilic granuloma in the last year.
This is virtually unheard of dogs and could only find 3 recorded cases in Norway in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and 2 Huskys. These were not recent.
I had 2 Cavaliers 1 of whom we had put to sleep age 4 when he was suffering badly with this and my other age 6 has now also been diagnosed. For a disease thats not catching and is so rare this is most unusual.
The disease is an auto immune disease and is not curable but in 50% of cases can be managed. It is common in cats but as I said virtually unknown in dogs.
It is not a disease vets would be looking at diagnosing in your dog so I am trying to find out if there are more dogs out there with this than could be realised and to find out the symptoms they may be suffereing.
It causes ulceration of the soft tissue, usually in the mouth or as in the case of my boy on the tonsils. (he had his tonsils removed but the ulceration moved out of sight further down his throat. it was only found by knocking him out and looking right down the throat). It is possible also to occur up the nose where it might be impossible to see or in the stomach or any other soft tissue areas.
I have also found in both my dogs they lacked in energy when they were ill (they do get good days or weeks here and there). They also both had watery eyes and sometimes clear droplets from or around the nose. Whether this was a result of the disease itself or a coincidence I am not sure.
My boy done a lot of snorting to the point where he couldn't stop and become quite distressed later he also was doing cough/chokes.
My girl has not had the snorting, coughing or choking but does when it flares up suffer with bad breath and seems quite off colour and poorly in herself.
Is anyone seeing anything similar in thier dogs or is thier dogs off colour or just not right but you can't put your finger on it?. Do they snort a lot? get a lot of infection? have bad breath, cough/ choke? Seem tired or lethargic? Don't want to walk far on walks? Watery eyes or nose? Redness or ulceration in the mouth or throat?
Please can you contact me with anything you may feel relevant with your dog as i think there is a lot of undiagnosed dogs out there who maybe are running up thier owners vets bills trying to find out what all these little problems are or by treating each little problem as something else.
Many Thanks
