Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hip scoring?

HI, does anyone know what the youngest age is for having your dog hip scored, as I have been told that it is done when they are about 18 months old, my G R is now 11 months old and I don't want to leave it to late to have her scored. Thanks

Dogs are not hip scored until 12 months of age minimum, there is no maximum age;

Hi Lotty,

Just an extra bit of info that you may or may not know - you only get one chance at hip scoring a dog (well, you can appeal, but on the same x-ray plates, so unlikely to get much change), so if your vet does not regularly x-ray dogs for scoring it may be wise to find a specialist to ensure that the dog is positioned correctly for the procedure.

Hope you get a good result.

M.

ask your vet if they carry out this alot. also try and find out if your breed has elbow scores as well. if so you could have them done at the same time which is better  for the dog.but like it has been said if they aren't in the right postion it will affect the score then you would have to get them re scored.i had my leo done at 1 and this was for both hips/elbows.
