Hello
Where do you live? Are you in the UK? If so, youwill not be able to get one (legally). They are a banned breed.
If you are in the US, then Im afraid I cant help, but someone on here may be able to.
:)

Unfortunately Sharhzad your were in such a hurry to ask your question that you failed to say on your profile where you live or leave a e-mail address, so even if you are not in the UK (where they are illegal) you will not get a offer of a puppy because no one can contact you.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 13.07.04 12:36 UTC
I see you have now said where you live, there should not be any APBT in the UK and I would avoid any that are offered you like the plague. No matter how much you want, legally your can't have, so chose a breed that is more suitable or I suppose you could emigrate :D

I haven't used this service before, i know its a rubbish reason. I live in the uk, southeast london. email address is shahzad873@yahoo.co.uk
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 13.07.04 12:43 UTC
Have replied if you live in the UK and wish to abide by the law then I am sorry you will have to look for a different breed.
- By tohme Date 13.07.04 12:44 UTC
Under the Dangerous Dog Act of 1991 it is illegal to possess a pit bull terrier without a certificate of exemption, which is granted once the dog is neutered, insured, and microchipped.

Therefore any existing dogs of this breed are either very old or are illegal, cos they cannot be bred if they are neutered....................

These dogs cannot be "in a public place without being muzzled and ... being securely kept on a lead by a person who is not less than 16 years old."
- By Havoc [gb] Date 13.07.04 12:44 UTC
As has already been posted the breed is illegal in the UK. They are still bred illegally but the chances of anyone pointing an unknown person in the direction of buying an APBT over the internet is very remote. If you really must have one of these dogs then perhaps your friend can tell you where he got his from.
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 12:54 UTC
I would ask him but he got his the same way that i am trying.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 13.07.04 12:58 UTC
Well you may be lucky but I would be very surprised if you are not sold a cross breed of uncertain background and dubious temperament but if you are determined not to take advice and realise that the dog may well be taken from you by the police and destroyed, then there is not a lot we can do to help.
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:10 UTC
How will the dog be taken from me? I live in a 4 acre estate, im not looking to walk through the town centre with him or make him do anything that will attract attention. No one in my area would call the police. I am not the type of person that will allow his dog to scare people
- By tohme Date 13.07.04 13:21 UTC
So you will never take your dog to the vet, training classes, have him chipped or walk him in any other place apart from a 4 acre estate?
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:29 UTC
My mate takes his pitbull to the vet, she ok about it. Vets are under no obligation to report banned dogs to the police. Its not 100% mandatory to get your dog chipped or trained. All i am trying to say is that i would never let anyone put my dog down. There would be no reason to...
I am not trying to be rude, but i didnt come on to this site to hear all the 'ifs' and 'buts' I am aware of all the facts.
- By Isabel Date 13.07.04 13:35 UTC
People are not being unkind pointing out the difficulties you would face.  As dog lovers we are very aware of how painfull it would be to loose a dog we loved in circumstances like this.  The law does not allow you to own such a dog and if it was reported to the police you would need an army to stop them coming to take it away if they chose to.  Very few have managed to prevent their dogs for being destroyed when taken into custody and those that have been saved generally spent the rest of their lives in kennels.
- By tohme Date 13.07.04 13:35 UTC
If you were aware of all the facts why come on here?  Also it IS mandatory to have illegal dogs chipped.

You are obviously obsessed by having something that you are not supposed to; unfortunately it is not only you that will have take the consquences, but the poor, innocent dog......................
It is not a case of "letting" anyone put your dog down, you could not stop it happening if the dog was discovered. There IS a reason for having it destroyed, because it is illegal; end of story!
- By Isabel Date 13.07.04 13:23 UTC
......and do you live in splendid isolation, no delivery men, postman, gas meter reader or paperboy who may choose to report the dog?
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:32 UTC
Isabel, I dont see why any one would report my dog if he hadn't done anything. If you saw a pitbull playing around with kids and other animals as if it was nothing more than a poodle would you report it?
- By Isabel Date 13.07.04 13:37 UTC
But I'm a dog lover, I can assure you not every postman is :)
- By tohme Date 13.07.04 13:40 UTC
I would report anything illegal; that is part of being a good citizen!
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:39 UTC
I am not trying to put across that i am above the law, or because my parents are well off that I can have anything that i want!!!! Its the complete opp. I want a couple of APBT pups because I've seen how my mates dog is with him. I know that all dogs are great friends but theres something about pitbulls.
- By Isabel Date 13.07.04 13:42 UTC
Yea that "something" is illegal  :)  There are lots of super companioniable breeds out there many other breeds of terrier for example my advise would be take a look at a few of them and save yourself a lot of heartache.
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:47 UTC
well i might have to take that advise simply because I propbably wont find a pup or two to buy. How do Irish staffs compare to Pitbulls. They look alike, not to many differences.
- By Havoc [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:49 UTC
Two APBTs growing up together with a novice owner. Could get a bit 'emotional'!

I'm not convinced that this is 100%, but i'm bored & willing to play along. (Alternatively could just be a young lad). Either way, I'd suggest you track down a forum dedicated to breeds of this type. They'll probably be US based but am sure there will be some UK based contributors. Perhaps they will sort you out. I doubt you'll get the answer you want on here.

Alternatively, if you are genuinely looking for a nice pet then there are loads of staffy owners on here that could point you in the right direction.
- By shahzad [gb] Date 13.07.04 13:59 UTC
Who said that im trying to convince you. I simply came here to find a contact that could lead me to some pups. What you talking about a young lad, you dont know me. I didnt ask for you to get involved Havoc, anyway i've got what i needed so i'l leave you to it. Shame more people cant be more helpful. Only because you haven't got any thing better to do, dosen't mean that we are all the same boat.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.07.04 14:12 UTC
Shahzad, nobody on this Forum is going to encourage you to break the law. It's not that sort of Forum. Sorry if that's what you were hoping.
:)
- By Merlin [gb] Date 13.07.04 14:19 UTC
I can see that you want one, but it is not practical and I personally would be very very dubious about anyone who sells or claims to sell them over here.

There are a lot of other breeds who are NOT banned and are fantastic specimines. It is very haphazard and rushed to just get a breed cos "your mate has one". The fact that it is banned should surely tell you something.
A decent breeder of any breed would not be overly keen to sell you 2 oftheir pups.

I think that if you did get an APBT, you would find yourself out of your depth.

If you really really really want one, then I suggest you move to America.
- By Lindsay Date 13.07.04 15:18 UTC
I think that, regardless of breed, most people are warned against buying 2 pups for all sorts of reasons - it is far more difficult to housetrain, train generally, etc plus bonding to the owner is not necessarily as easy as it is with just the one :)
Also, any dog has to be socialized to people via classes to start preferable or it is not fair on that dog. Most dog owners socialise their dog in a very proactive way these days and the dog would really have to be taken out and about for its own sake.
