Sal has got a bad leg/foot back left leg she seems to be hardly able to put any weight on it. I can't see anything wrong with her foot (ie a thorn or anything) but she had been a good run before hand and was fine playing with other dogs etc and running about. Maybe she has pulled a muscle or something (I hope nothing more serious) She had no sign of a limp before so it can't be anything more serious can it?
Karen
Hope not kazz, cruciate ligament springs to mind tho. Rest her & see how she is, if no better pop her to the vets.

Never think it worth ignoring a limp for more than 24 hours if it is not better or if it improves and then recurs. Could be cruciate could be slipping patella, they can also get an infection in the nail bed that can be serious if not treated.
Hope everything is OK with her soon :)

Karen, really hope your visit to the vets proves to have been unnecessary ;)

Not only was it unneccesary it was a no go :) Sal has not limped on the leg all morning or afternoon and have just walked her on lead, quickly then slowly to see and no sign. Will keep an eye on her though and no off lead running for a couple of days just short lead walks...good job I am on hols eh ;)
Yesterday in the park she played off lead with two rotties (never seen them before) for about 1/2hour they were knocking each other over all the while, but she showed nosign of a limp at all after.
So I don't know what it was but last night she was not in pain and she couldn't have cared less as I moved her leg gently, and touched/squeezed her toes.
So unless she has cramp no idea. But thanks for the good wishes Jackie I appreciate the thought :)
I have cancelled the vets appointment for tonight, will keep you informed.

I hate limps and lame dogs, it is so difficult to try and sort. If it reoccurs I would suspect the knee cap as that can slip in and out but lets hope it was a bit sore and now it's not so we have stopped limping ;)

Good lord I hope it's not :( how would you know???? if it was the kneecap? what should I do? Would I not have noticed before she's almost 19 months and doing nothing different than she was before

Would think you would have had a problem before this and stop the panic, it is probably nothing.

Okay taking deep breathes here :) Thanks both.
She seems fine I walked her on lead quickly then fast to see as I was told that was the way to "spot" a limp. She is happily being crazy, jumping etc etc. But I am trying to "keep her calm" no idea what she did as saw nothing odd before last night. No we have never seen anythig like this before but will be watching her like a hawk now. Like I wasn't before :)
She seems to be fine. in facta little put out I keep running my hand over her leg.

Kazz it could be anything from a tiny cut between the pad or a damaged nail to a bruse somewhere. If is gone that quick it is not a problem. I am a horror at noticing when a dog is lame and beleve me it happens a lot but not normaly enough to make them lift the foot. Have found if they do lift the foot it is either something serious or as in this case nothing at all, would not mind betting she stood on something and brused between the pads. I drive my OH mad because everytime I watch the hounds come toward me I anounce that so & so is lame at the moment, and that is just it 'at the moment'.

Hmm mayeb you are right. I hope so I really do thinkingabout it shedid put the foot on the floor but not any weight on it. But you know how thngs escalate out of all proportion when its your "baby" :)

'cause I do, I don't let lameness continue I'm up the vets if there is no improvement. But as you say she is fine today so don't worry any more. It was the rear was it? You know I watch mine in the field and if they run over a thistle they limp and will hold the foot off the floor, I look but can see nothing and I think the very tip of the spiky leaf breaks off in the soft part of the foot, nothing to see but it hurts them when they put weight down so they don't, always seems ok by the morning.

Jackie you have put my mind at rest now it was the rear left. And we did walk towards stingers because they were getting more; I turned round and walked the other way away from them. In the past if we come to some really "dodgy" ground like thistles/stingers or sadly the odd lot of broken glass I pick her up. As you do with 40 lb of Stafford but better safe than sorry - but she does not appreciate it now I don't think it does her doggy street cred any good ;)
There is no sign of a limp or any favouring of the leg/foot today at all. She has been walked on lead three times today but she won't be running loose again until I am sure in my own mind maybe I'll consider it Thursday :)

>>If only they could talk and tell you what was wrong <<
bet they would lay it on thick and we would be even more worried and rush arround cooking chicken breast and feeding doggy chocs.
