Firstly I'm not a Staffie person - but it might help if you explain a little more about what you mean. For example, are you about to get a puppy from a breeder? If so the breeder will tell you what he/she should be fed on and you shouldn't really look to change that unless there is a good reason. The breeder should give you a supply of food with a diet sheet. It's also worthwhile talking to your vet. However, if that's not the case, I've given some information below. Recommending food is very difficult because we all like to think we give our dogs the best , but what's best for one dog is not necessarily best for another.

You will need to consider how much you can afford and how much food preparation you are willing to do. Some people cook meals specially for their dogs - tripe, liver, pasta, rice etc etc, others feed tinned food. Many now use a complete dried food that is nutritionally balanced for the size and age of your dog. The only thing I would say with dried complete food is to make sure you get the right food for the breed and age of dog. Don't be tempted to give him/her adult food because it's cheaper - it's got the wrong balance of proteins. Also you will find that some dogs react differently to different foods. My cocker for example is hopeless on Eukanuba - makes him hyper. I therefore changed him to Nutro and he is fine - much more settled. He has recently moved from the puppy kibble to adult kibble as he has reached the right age and size. I am due to get another pup next week but will keep him on the food the breder has used even though it is different to what I use now. I will only change if it becomes necessary, probably when he is ready for adult food when they can then have the same.

If on the other hand you have a litter of pups that are getting ready for weaning - then you will need advice from a breeder of Staffies or again talk to your vet.
