Topic Dog Boards / General / Microchip registrations

Has anyone else who does their own microchipping had a problem whilst registering a chip?  I tried to register one on Friday, only to find that the chip number came up as already registered, apparently to a cat called Penny (I had chippped a French Bulldog called Harry with that number)  the Petlog people at the kennel club are looking into it for me, and I have sent them the bar code strip, but this seems to be a big problem.  I had the dog who I chippped in today so I could re-read the chip, and it is exactly as the bar code.  This means that either 2 chips have been produced with the same number, which is meant to be impossible, or the cat has been registered on the wrong chip, which would be disatrous if it got lost, as there would be no way to trace it.  Has this happended to anyone else?
bye

That is bad Especially if the dog/cat went missing. I thought Microchips were never duplicated ? This is why they are"allegedly"the best ID method.

There is more than one chip company ? I never knew that, but then I don't chip & have never had my dogs chipped either

Does that mean that you have cross register the chips ?
