Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Pup eating raw chicken breasts

Hi there,

Are raw Chicken breasts okay for an 8 week old pup or are they too high in protein? He was being fed on AMP raw chicken mince at the breeders but he stopped eating alot a few days before we collected him. I know its not a correct diet but it's all he willl eat at the moment. I have him booked in for a check up at the vets on monday morning - there's nothing outwardly wrong, he's going to the toilet fine and is very lively - he's just not interested in his food.

Raw chicken breasts would be fine providing your pup has some bone as well and not at every meal.  Just the breasts is NOT good for your pup. If the breasts are still attached to the carcass this would be much better than just having the meat as an all meat diet is NOT good, especially for a growing pup.  There is a lot of information on feeding raw on this site (why not register as well)

When you say not very interested in his food - is he not eating much or not bothered whether you feed him or not.  Pups frequently go off their food a little when arriving in a new home but this should not happen before they leave their breeder as at 8 - 9 - 10 weeks I tend to find that my breed increases its consumption very rapidly.
