I am interested in using my 3 year old dog as a stud, i only would like one of the puppies, the runt of the litter would be fine.  How can i go about this.  All advice is most welcome thanks for reading

Call your breeder back and see what they say, they would be the best to advise you on this.

Have you done all the genetic/herditary health checks needed for this breed so in hopes not to be passed onto the offspring?
Is your dog registered?
Is he a good example of the breed?
Did you buy him for pet or breeding? If for pet then that is all he is, he is not breeding potential and you should love him for the pet he is.
Are you aware once you breed him he may not be the same lovable dog he is now? he may change or may stay the same thats the chance you take.

He's 3 years old I personally think you should of thought about this when you purchased him. Since you want another puppy why not go back to your breeder and get one off of her you will save alot more money in the long run. After doing all the tests and everything else involved just to get into breeding it makes much more sense just to purchase a puppy from a good breeder. the reason why I say this is because after reading your post you only want to breed to have a pup not to continue breeding. :( Love him for the dog he is no reason to breed him you may not like his attitude once you do and well you can't turn back the clock :(

Dollface has given sound advice :)

The only addition I would make is that if you have done all the health checks, the dog and bitch are sound and in prime condition and their pedigrees are compatible, and the bitch not bred too often, then you shouldn't even be thinking in terms of "a runt would be fine" since you shouldn't be expecting one ;)

i would never use a pet dog for stud, there are enough good stud dogs around and it can change your dog for life,i say what he hasnt had he wont miss and you shouldnt have a runt in a litter, they should all be very much the same,if i were you id buy a new puppy in from a reputable breeder and i think youd have difficulty to find a bitch for him to stud to as breeders often go to the proper stud kennels and not pet owners with their bitches, please have a think about this and good luck with your decision, angie
