I HAVE AN 8 WEEK OLD PUPPY(BITCH). CAN ANYBODY TELL ME AT WHAT AGE BITCHES FIRST COME INTO SEASON? SHE ALSO HAS A KINK IN HER TAIL, WOULD I STILL BE ABLE TO SHOW HER?

Don't know if your breed has any particular habits when it comes the normal time for the seasons to start but with most breeds it is between 6 months and 18 months, this is the sort of question best asked of the breeder who will know the norm for the breed. The tail will not stop you showing her but may be counted as a fault again the breeder or the breed club should be able to help.

My bordeau girl had her first season when she was 8 months old but I think that with any breed this can vary a lot, some I have heard do not come in season untill 18 month to 2 years but I think this is an extreme, The kink in the tail will count against her in the show ring, but with all judges they put different priority on different faults, but it is not desirable, but give it a go if she looks show quality when she is 6 months. It's fun and the Bordeaux club have some good events, with puppy walks and we have just had a companion dog show were there was about 80+ dogues, are you a member of the club if not email me and I will give you the contact number, were your girls parents hip scored would be interested in the breeding still a novice with them only had about 5 years interest in them so still learning but they are some great people that can be really helpfulll, enjoy your girl

Not being patronising, but don't know how much you know about the showing side. Unfortunately they are only allowed to be shown in Import Register classes and are unable to compete for best in show etc. Most of us IR people are very friendly and it's a great day out at shows, no bickering etc. :d
I DO WANT TO JOIN SOME CLUBS WITH HER I HAVE LOOKED A LOT ON THE INTERNET FOR CLUBS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I KNOW MOM WAS HIP SCORED AND DADS DAD HE HAD A 16 I THINK. I WOULD HOPEFULLY LIKE TO BREED HER WHEN SHE IS A BIT OLDER. WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE BEST AGE TO BREED HER?

Would have thought at about 3 years once you have found out if apart from the problem with the tail she is a good example. Tail kinks can be heredity and if that is the case with your pup you should not consider breeding from her.
THE VET SAID A LOT OF THEM HAVE IT AND IT HAS NO AFFECT ON THEM IS THIS TRUE? ACTUALLY THE VET ALSO THOUGHT SHE WAS A STAFF WHEN I TOOK HER IN 2 BE CHECKED. SHE HAS A SLIGHTLY UNDERSHOT JAW, IS THIS NORMAL, THE VET SAID IT SHOULD RIGHT ITSELF AS SHE GROWS. ALSO MY MOM HAS A MALE SAME BREED AND SAME 8 THAT IS 4 TIMES THE SIZE OF MY BITCH, DO YOU THINK THE DOG BREEDER MAY HAVE LIED ABOUT THE AGE OF THE DOG?

Spinal defects are often hereditary, the fact that lots have it means irresponsible breeding, that is the way that a problem spreads through a breed, not helped by a vet that makes pronouncement not even knowing what breed they are talking about.

Do they have spinal defects ? Only asking as I once saw a gorgeous one outside a local shop but it had a total bobtail. Such a shame as it is one of the best ones I've ever seen.

As I said in my previous reply if you contact me I will put you in touch with the official Dogue de Bordeaux Club there is only one now as they amalgamated to get Kennel Club recognition, they are planning another match meet in the near future. Hip scoreing, elbow x-rays and heart tests are recommended before breeding, I know with the litter I have,( not advertising as they are all sold) one of the stud dogs owners first questions was to ask about if there were any kinked tails in the litter, but if you join the club you will get news letters etc. and reports on the health problem in the breed, you have plenty of time for research if you puppy is just 8 weeks, and when you start showing there are a lot of people in the breed that are very knowledgable and are very willing to share information, if the pups parents were hip scored it will be on the kennel club registration papers that you got from breeder, also the parents kennel names so it should be easy to find out if she is a true bordeaux, as most of the good breeder know the lines well as the gene pool is not vast. and if her parents were eye tested they will be on the registration documents as well, there is not a great problem with skellital abnoralities from what I have been told, but kink tail is hereditary, if you get in touch with me at chymera@tmastif.fslife. co.uk I will give you the club infomation, and they will be able to answer your questions, I think about 2 years old is the average age when breeding is thought about from the people that I have spoken to. but there are a lot of Bordeaux puppy's about and from the enquiries that I have had a lot of people are becoming a lot more health aware. The interim breed standard says on mouths, Undershot, the back of the lower incisor not in contact with the front of the upper incisor, strong teeth particularly the canines. Lower canines set wide apart and slightly curved, Incisors well aligned, especially in the lower jaw where they form an apparent straight line.Give her time, show her , most people are pleased to help and come and join in the fun at the club events. The newly formed Southern and East Anglia Working breeds & Pastoral Society are holding a number of seminars on the different working breeds including DDB , that one is on the 5th December, these are for Rare breeds & import register breeds, I can give you information if you would like to attend

britney1000, you have been very forthcomming and helpful, do hope that it is taken advantage off, bet there are a lot of new puppy owners who would wish for someone like you to come along and help. As you have said there seem to be a large number of pups about and I would be suprised if they are on the Import list for very long. Wonder what makes one breed become so popular within such a short time, when was the first litter bred in the UK do you know?

Bought the local free ads today...looking for a car.
There are more litters of DDB advertised than any other breed.

Well done, sure she will be a lot of help. One more thing, could you take the Caps Lock off, it is difficult to read and not considered good internet manners as people do it when they are cross and shouting, and that you are not. ;)

Sorry I have not emailed you earlier today but have been out and about with the dogs, but I do not usually get chance to come online untill the evening( most of my posts are at 2.a.m.) I have sent you the information, hope it help and look forward to seeing you at a funday event, there are puppy walks for the under 6 months pups.
I think that the first Bordeaux were brought in about 12 years ago but I could stand corrected but that is the earliest that I have found out about. I have Tibetan Mastiff's as well which I first got in 1986, they have not got the numbers that Bordeaux have and they are rare breeds, but there seasons are usually once yearly then very few litters are born, but the Black Russian Terrier has a sharp rise to rare breeds but I do not know when they were first imported but it is just in the last 6 years that I have heard of them, but I am a bit sorry in a way that Bordeaux have such great popularity
Really sorry if i offened anybody with keeping caplocks on. I would just like to say thankyou to everybody for giving the advice and help i needed on this forum, most forums you cant get a reply from anyone let alone lots of people, and nobody being nasty in anyway. THANKYOU.(thats a capital thankyou, because i really mean it im not cross or angry)
