i moved from turkey 2 years ago im from a muslim family we r not allowed to keep dogs inside the house.i just rehomed a dog from my friend he could not cope with it ,i have built a beautiful kennel outside for him,with a 20foot run.but my next door neighbour says it is illegal to keep a dog outside,thats why i have come on the champdogs to find out if it is illegal.the dog is in super b condition.i realy like him so do my family,because of our religion we can not keep him in the house.if i have upset anyone i am sorry.if it is illegal to keep a dog in a kennel iwill rehome.

It certainly is not illegal to keep a dog in an outside kennel and run, as long as it is properly cared for.  Lots of dogs are kept outside, including some police/prison/armed forces dog, most working sheepdogs, and a whoel lot of show/breding dogs!  However, a dog in a kennel and run needs as much care as a house dog, and should received regular excercise, and be housed in a dry, kennel, with provision for heating in winter, and ventilation for summer.  These are not legal requirment, but simple animal care guidelines.  It is, of course, also essential to keep the kennel and run regularly cleaned.

Welcome, it is far from illegal to keep a dog in a kennel and run, if it were all the dogs homes would be up for criminal charges :D

Of course you can keep a dog in a kennel and run, many many dogs are including show dogs, pet dogs, police dogs, customs and excise dogs, gundogs, sled dogs, search and rescue dogs etc etc etc.

It sounds as though your neighbour may have a problem with either you or the dog so be sure that your dog does not breach environmental guidelines by barking too much etc otherwise you could be had up for noise pollution.

It sounds like you are doing the best for this dog & a 20ft run is more than enough for him to exercise during the day. As long as you make sure he gets all the other regular attention that the others have mentioned, then i don't think you have a problem. Some neighbours have nothing better to do with their time, thank god i have nice ones!....lol Do make sure he's not being a nuisance to them though.

Ok if you keep same neighbours, but when one moves in and starts complaining grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
But mine are kenneled 3 1/2 days a week, and are housed the rest of the time(nights they are inside)
Just out of interest, Which religion stops people having dogs inside????? Genuinly curious as have never heard of it.

I thought for muslims just touching a dog was against their religeon I know that if I was in the park in blackburn and my dogs went over to lads playing cricket they didnt touch them when I cahtted to them they explained that they couldnt go to the mosque if they touched the dog so I never let my dogs trouble them
As for kennels outside there is nothing wrong with an outside accomodation but only if the dogs gets  lots of other stimulation plus excersise out in another place.
I would worry however that a dog used to living with a family in a house suddenly put outside would be very hard on the dog indeed to adapt to that kind of life,a dogs used to being outside will soon adapt to indoors but not vice versa IMHO

hi touching a dog is fine for a muslim as long has the person washes his hands before going to mosque and eating food.my dog also lives in the kennel at night.thats perfectly fine.im a muslim too.if you need any further information please email me.
