I have a week and a half before max has the all clear to go out in the big wide world and we are very excited. Can somebody give me some guidelines as to what exercise to give him at first. We have been practising on the lead in the garden and he really doesnt mind it at all. I have been told by some people no more than ten minutes. Does this sound right. And is that once a day or more and how gradually do you build it up? Max is a labrador by the way.  I know he will no be able to go on really long walks till he is over a year but I want to know when  you increase it. I know he is going to love going out as he is a really confident and inquisitive dog. Oh and one more question how many poos a day is normal for a ten week old puppy? Thank you in advance

Several short walks is better than one long one, because as a small pup he won't be needing them for exercise, more for training and socialisation. The usual rule is for walks of roughly 5 minutes for every month of his age - so at 3 months he can have 2 or 3 15-minute walks, and when he is up to 4 months they can be about 20 minutes each. The point is not to get him physically overtired.

You say he's a really confident and inquisitive dog. You may be surprised when he is in a strange environment - be prepared!

Good luck with him - I bet he's lovely!
