Topic Dog Boards / General / What size cage?
- By kazz Date 08.07.04 23:38 UTC
A friend at work is getting a pup in a couple of weeks a cocker spaniel and wants to get a cage there have been apparently differing pieces of info on the size of the cages have been offered. So I told her I would ask here, and show her the answers/suggestions. So what size cage would you get for a cocker pup? I think she will use it till the pup is housetrained and able to be left without chewing maybe longer if the pup takes to it?

What size would you reccomend?

The cage should be big enough for the pup/dog to stand, sit, turn around, and lay down stretched out. If they want one so the pup can fit when full grown you can get a big one and just put something in behind to make it smaller and remove as pup grows. There is a name for it but can't remember for the life of me. Have they checked with their breeders to see what size of kennels they use? I use kennels the size for a golden for my boston terrier's because I like them to have alot of room, and they don't mess in it.

Good luck :)

Hi Karen

I have a cocker spaniel (10 months old now) I bought my crate from Argos, they only do one size (H)60, (W)76, (D)53cm.  He had a big cushion in there to sleep on but he also has enough room to lie on the cool plastic when he gets warm.  It folds down easily and is only £38.49  I only leave Barney in it 2/3 hours a day but he loves it, and often if we are home and the crate door is closed (he hasn't realised how to open it yet with his paw) he will bark until I open it for him and he goes for a little nap.  It may become a permenant piece of furniture in our house

I would think the easily available one that they stock in a lot of placres including Argos would be fine.  It is 30 or 31 incheslong, 20 or 21 inches wide and 24 inches tall.

The Argos one was recommended to my friend for her cockers by their breeder :)
