Can you all keep your fingerscrossed for my girl.
She whelped 5 puppies yesterday afternoon with no problems. This morning she started to stress out and not lay down and relax with them, she was also vomiting and retching.
I've taken her into the vet and they have kept her in on a drip she has a severe calcium deficiency and is going into eclampsia.
Hopefully we can pick her up again at midday, in the meantime I have 5 pups to keep hydrated.
I am worried sick about her

Crikey Jayne, I do hope she is ok, everything crossed here!
Dawn.
Thanks Dawn
Its Toffee my Champion bitch. The Vets are doing a scan as well in case she has a retained puppy which is causing the problems.
But she has classic eclampsia symptoms, Shaking panting heart rate high and high temperature.
Will let you know when I have any news

Fingers crossed Jayne. At least you know what to look for, which helps no end getting help in plenty of time if needed.
Thinking of you, John

Oh dear, eclamspia I remember it well..........unfortunately after my girl got it, she wasn't allowed to feed her pups again due to the medication they put her on. I hope for your sake and the pups that this isn't so with your girl.
Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Thinking of you. Fingers and paws crossed for Toffee and the 5 pups. Let us know how they all are.
She's home!!!
No signs of low calcium in the blood test, no retained puppy or afterbirth(which I knew already) no nasty infection in the womb.
Vet thinks it could just be one of those 24 hour gastric things, that was coincidental with her having whelped.
She is now in with her babies and feeding them quite happily.
Just got to watch her for the next 24 hours as she has been given an anti-emetic injection to stop the vomiting, if it starts again have got tablets but fingerscrossed it won't. If she gets worse then straight back to the vets.
Jayne and a very relieved Toffee and pups.

Smashing Jayne. You can start enjoying the puppies now :)
Best wishes, John
Thanks everyone
She still seems fine so I can relax a little.
Just goes to prove how things can so easily go wrong doesn't it.
