My dogs managed to cut her pad whilst out this morning, it looks clean, its on her back paw and the cut is all the way across the pad, it's not bleeding. The question is will this heal by itself? I don't want to pay a small fortune to pay the vet to say "Leave it alone it'll heal itself"

when nell cut her pad (badley) the vet actually stiched it,(though loads of doggy people were telling me 2they dont stich pads!)-well he did & it heeled up lovely! it was deep though, ive had minor cuts that ive washed out & iodine sprayed that have been fine! so it depends how deep it is!

If there was no blood then I would not worry about seeing the vet unless it is worrying the dog. Most pad damage is not stitched as 9 times out of 10 the stitching causes as much trouble as the original injury, but if it is only the surface that is damaged stitching would be of no use anyway.

mollie cut her pad on front paw when she was about 18 months old lots of blood as we thought the vet would not stitch it we wrapped it up and cleaned it and it closed within a few days i will never forget all the blood but she was fine
