We had one of ours microchipped at Crufts but yesterday we felt in the top of her leg what feels suspiciously like a small metal strip. There is no break in her skin so it is unlikely to be a foreign body. I will speak to my vet tomorrow but is this cause for concern, would it have to be removed or anything. If it is i cant believe it has travelled so far so quickly.

Microchips should be implanted inbetween the shoulder blades and after a few days the chip adheres to the surrounding tissue and will stay put forever. If however the chip is implanted in the wrong place then gravity may cause it to move. Your vet will be able to scan her and tell you where the chip is. It will be okay there though, one of my dogs chips has moved down to the top of his leg.

Thanks Sally
She is going to belgium in October so we need to find where it is. My main concern was if it could harm her by moving around. Mind you, it puts me off having any more microchipped.

I only tattoo mine; unfortunately the PETS passport system requires microchipping and they can and do move and sometimes they cannot get read and then you have to have them rechipped.
Bit of a drag if you are trying to return to the UK and the chip fails to scan.................
