Can anybody please give me some info on a Closed Piametra (Not sure on the correct spelling).
I have been told that it is when a Bitch comes into season but does not stop bleading ?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Closed Pyrometra's usually happen after the bitch is in season been in season but can happen at anytime
The difference between an open & a closed one is the lack of discharge & smell in the closed one
If you put pyrometra into any search engine you will come up with Vet sites that explain it fully
Pyro is the womb filling with pus & if untreated the womb wll burst & the bitch will die

Thanks
I have just been to see a Bulldog Bitch which is 1 year old and who has had a Closed Pyrometra.
She has been speyed.
Would there be reason not to get this Bulldog ie future problems etc

Not at all she will be fine, once she is spayed the womb has been remove and no further problem with it can occur.

Moonmaiden is correct by it has nothing to do with the bitch bleeding. There is not in my experience any bleeding with a closed pyometra.

Mant thanks for your quick and most useful advice.
Looked on Yahoo and read all about it, thinks I will have another visit to see her.

What usually happens is that when the vulva is open while the bitch is in season an infection gets in. When the season finishes the vulva closes again and the infection breeds inside.
Sometimes it results in the vulva opening again and a nasty reddy muddy brown (if you follow my meaning) discharge occurs along with a smell. this is an open pyometra.
Sometimes the vulva does not reopen but the infection continues to build up inside. This is closed pyometra.
Obviously with the open you know something is wrong and seek help from your vet but with the closed there is no outward sigh to tip you off. This is where it is so dangerous, because you may not realise until it is too late!
