Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / How long should I leave him?

Can anyone tell me in general the maximum amount of time you can leave a Border Terrier puppy at home? i've heard you can buy automatic timed food and water dispensers if your away from home and also the pup in a playpen with him/hers crate in it - along with lots of toys!
Can any offer advice with all these things in consideration? Thanks

Ideally you should not leave a puppy too long as apart from considerations such as the pup chewing and toiletting and barking, you could set off separation anxiety. If you can gradually leave the pup for a few minutes here and there, slowly building it up, that is ideal but its difficult as some people do work and so on......

:-(

If you are considering things such as automatic waterers and feeders then you are, in my opinion, considering leaving the puppy for too long on its own.

The longest I leave any of mine as pups, without someone at home or popping in is 2 hours.  Border Terriers are very much people dogs and hate to be on their own for very long.
