Topic Dog Boards / Health / refused her breakfast

My 6 month old GSD pup refused her breakfast this morning and was not her usual bouncy self. Normally she is trying to get the food before the bowl touches the floor. She also had a gurgling noise coming from her tummy. Panic set in and I rang the vet. They gave me an appointment for in 1 hours time. I rushed about getting dressed but on coming down stairs my pup was eating slowly. I still kept the appointment with the vet who said she had a slightly raised temperature. He massaged her tummy, no wincing in pain. He asked if she had had her season but as she had not the vet said it may be the start of it or that she may have picked up something infected at the park the day before. Neither of these seemed right to me as her bowels are fine and I don't feel that hormonal changes could result in refusing her food. She is not coughing or being sick just lethargic. Has anyone any ideas?

My mums bitch is just going through her first season and my mum is having trouble getting her to eat anything at all :(

I would just keep an eye on her, if she seems happy and her motions are normal I wouldnt worry just yet.

Trouble is she does not appear happy. The vet gave her an injection and a course of anti-biotics just in case. He also said could be gastric problems but just to keep a watch for the next 5 days.

It could well be her season, I think my mum said Lily was a moping about not wanting to play when she first came into season.  But you will know best as she is your dog, if you dont agree with the vet why not take her back :)

Update

My pup ate her lunch with gusto but her bowels were very loose. Ate her tea, no problem and picked up spirit, and her bowel movement back to normal. I thought all was going well but this morning she was sick on getting up. White frothy stuff. She was reluctant to eat her breakfast at first but after the first nibble she tucked in and her bowels normal.
