I give my dogue 1 pound of dog mince with 1 mug of dry food in the morning then the same at night, i was just wondering if this is ok, he is 11 months old? He looks ok but not like some of the dogues i've seen. is there any way i could put more weight on him? the dry food i give him is wagg complete.He also gets dog treats in between his meals.

Will not comment on the food you are giving him as I know nothing about it. Will say that your boy is still a puppy and would guess he will not reach maturity until he is about 3 years old. Do not be in a hurry to put on too much weight as that could effect the still growing bone, steady growth is the way to go. There is also a difference in the growth rate of dogs that are castrated before maturity so that can confuse the issue too.

Never heard of Wagg, has anyone else? Is the mince from the butcher or do you buy it in packets and do you cook it or is it severed raw, if raw tripe may be a better bet. Join the forum and we can talk further on the value of the food you are feeding.

Wagg is one of the cheapest foods that you can buy in the supermarkets - know nothing of its nutrional content, but I would imagine that there is a lot of cereal bulker/recovered protein (i.e. meat slurry) in it.

Do a search on here, and you will find what other people prefer to feed to a giant breed.

Wag is a very 'cereal' based flaked product. Guest I would advise you to change to a better quality food and to be careful since as Jackie says he is only a baby and you don't want to grow too quick.
The most recommended feeds on the board seem to be burns and james well beloved although Autarky is a popular 'cheaper' brand that I have fed myself with great success.
I'm no expert but if your dog is only getting 2 cups of complete and the rest is mince then its not very balanced.I would look at varying the meat intake so that the meat part of the diet you feed is more balanced.Try feeding fish,chicken wings(raw with bone),tripe,raw eggs etc.

Dogue de bordeaux's do not really fill out untill they mature, that can be any time between 18 months to 3 years, as do a lot of large breed dogs. Britney my dogue de bordeaux bitch is 2 and very mature and   began to fill out when she was about 18 month, now at 2 I would say that she has just finished growing, but is now filling out width ways, but the male, was a year old on the 1st April and he is lean, I feed him on Burns dog food,and spice it up a bit with green tripe and supplimented with chicken wings, as Burns I find with my lot will not pile weight on them, but gives a good diet, to build on untill he matures, I would worry more if he was heavy biult at this age, I have just noticed in the last month that he is getting broader in his chest and growing into his head, but I would not worry or try to put weight on him to early as the bones are still soft and by putting weight on him early you could harm his hips or cause his legs to bow, at 11 months you dogue is still a baby if you give him a good quality diet, he will fill out in his own time. Different lines seem to mature quicker than other's with bordeaux, so as long as he is healthy and not been over excercised,with the right diet he will fill out in his own time.If you join and do a search there is a wealth of information on different types of feeding which may suit your dog better.
