Do any of you name your litters by themes? I'm having a hard time coming up with unique registered names and thought I'd call on all of your creativity to help me out. I have toy breed and looking for either themed names (naming an entire litter based on certain themes) or unique individual names. Can you all help me brainstorm and post names you come up with or have heard of? Thank you.

We called our 1st Aussie litter after pop song titles of 50s/60s (dos that show my age? :D  )

So we have Puttin' on da Style; Venus in Blue Jeans; Singin' da Blues; Black Magic; Shady Lady; etc etc.    We are contemplating the next litter, and I'm thinking of names with "To/Too/2"  in....

Can anyone run me through restrictions/guidelines on names for KC registration when you don't have an affix?
- By briedog [gb] Date 01.07.04 07:27 UTC
my 1st litter after snow beause when they were beening it was snowing and it was the last snow of the centuery 1999,snow blerone, snow leopard, snow strom, snow bell, snow lilly, snow dust, snow blizzard, snow shadow, snow fox, snow falcon,
2nd after red beacuse they were liver in colour red spider lilly, red hot foxy lady, red dragon, red october,
3rd after indian tribe, apache tears, hopie hunter, wichita warrior, comanch star, little crow and tiger lilly, the last two were my second names so that why do not go with the tribe names, where in wanted cherokee wispa and chennye chief.

hope to get limted edition or last edition for my only 1 puppy whos 5 weeks old, limted beacuse she the only one from the swedish dog i bought over and last beacuse it wispa last litter.so finger cross for that one.

OK I've just read the guidelines on the registration form but am not sure that I am that much clearer.  Does that mean that you can only ever have one dog registered as 'red dragon' regardless of breed and without an affix?  Can you find out before registration if the names are acceptable?

We want a theme of Lords and Pirates for ours - swashbuckling style.

PS I've been asked to correct that and add that I want that theme not WE!!!

Hi Jacky,  Yes, each name must be unique,  so you can have XYZ Red Dragon,  and ABC Red Dragon, and Red Dragon, on its own, but once someone has jused it on its own that is it!  People can still use it with an affix, of course.  Oh, and if someone happens to have Dragon registerd as an affix, then you could not have any of the above at all! If you ring the KC and catch one of the staff feeling friendly, and not too busy, they will often do a quick search for you to let you know names may be acceptable or not.  However, if your first and second choice are not allowed, they jsut send you a form back to choose 2 more names.

Gwen,

If someone had used Red Dragon on its own, for the first time that year, would the KC administrative affix not then be added - i.e. couldn't you have a Kenmillone Red Dragon, Kenmilltoo Red Dragon etc., as long as it was the only dog that year?

Hi Brihow,  This sems to  be a bit of a grey area - I think they mostly use the KC "Ken" affixes for regualry breeders who do not have an affix, rather than the "one offs".  Dont think they would add one just to differentiatie, more likely to reject and request a new name.

As I understood it the ken... affixes were used to name pups whe4n the breeder soesn't even submit names, but from now on they are going to charge extra for this service.

I cannot imagine not wanting to name the pups myself.  Most breeders spend ages trying to think up names, it is one of the pleasures of breedign a litter.

Picking GSDs as a likely breed for non-affix breeders ;), there are various litters in the latest BRS which have several pups in a litter using the admin affix, but some not - i.e. in the same litter we have Kenmillfore Black Prince, K. Maid Marion etc. but then two pups with less common names that don't have the affix.

There are also several litters that look like they've been named by the KC as part of the new 'service, but several litters which are mixed between having the KC affix and having no affix?

<Does that show my age>
Shows mine too :D

I love thinking of names, friend had a litter Sire was Lone Piper so they were all called after Scottish dance tunes. Peat Fire Flame for a brown bitch was my favourite. I'll always stick my tuppence worth in ;)

My litters have been 1) all French names and 2) all Rod Stewart songs.

You could also use the alphabet - A litter, B litter, etc. - or films from a certain era or starring a certain actor (i.e. Tom Cruise gives you Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Last Samurai, etc. - not good for a toy breed, but you get the idea!)

Or flower names/varieties (loads of Roses to keep you going) ......... or band names ......... or Latin names .......... or the weather ......... or all starting with the same letter as your affix ............. or change Rod Stewart above for whoever floats your boat ..........

Or you could have a theme based on the registered names of the parents?

When I registered a litter for my Father-in-law who doesn't have an affix, I used an American road atlas (he is American) and found some small obscure town names and just added on a 'human' name aftwerwards. Very quick and easy and we got all but one of our first choice names.

since we are on this topic. any ideas for a singleton boxer puppy both call name and show name? I'm TERRIBLE with names :)
- By archer [gb] Date 02.07.04 18:14 UTC
Do you have an affix??
What about  'XXXX just the one'....CALL NAME SOLO
Or 'XXXXX one and only'
Or 'XXXX one for the road'
Or 'XXXX all by myself'
Or 'XXXX lone ranger'...call name Ranger
Archer

As a call name if he is red....ROWAN means little red one!!

Actually I'm hoping she lives up to the Hev'n Sent part. It can only be up hill if you've followed what happen with this whelping. The latest is her constipation issue that i posted about but I know that's not this topic.
"Hev'n Sent a little bloated"  I'm exhausted
