Hiya
Hope someone can help me. We have an 18wk old british bulldog pup (Benson!) who is on James Wellbeloved puppy performance 3 times a day. I don't know if I'm doing right but I add bits to it e.g cabbage, carrot and sometimes minced beef. My question is when could I knock off the dinner-time meal? All the books I've read have said that from 16 weeks bulldogs can manage on 2 meals a day.

Also when could I change him over to junior JWB? It says on the pack that it should be from 6 months, is he to young for me to start switching him??

Also one more thing if you don't mind. His new teeth are coming through now so I was wondering what sort of chews I could give him? He has been having puppy ones at the moment but I wanted to get him something he can really get his new teeth into.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Don't know anything about Bulldogs but my Goldies are fed Jwb ,from14-16 weeks I take them off puppy and put them on to adult missing out junior altogether, but I do this for because of hip and growth development this works very well for us and at this stage mine are fed 2 meals aday (unless I feel the dog may still benefit from a 3rd meal alittle longer but this would be very low protein).
I'm sure someone will be along to advise for your breed or perhaps your breeder will be best person to give any advice.

I cant really help you with the food, but let Benson be your guide,he will most likely drop a meal by himself, there is no hurry tho, relax ;)
As for the teething, give him a big fat juicy raw bone, they are very soothing on their teeth and gums and obviously all dogs love them, forget about all those artificial chews, they are boring for the dogs and have the added hazard of breaking up in little bits!
You can try giving him:marrow bones, beef brisket ,lamb necks, beef soup bones,ox tail. There are so many to choose from, make sure to always give them raw as cooked bones splinter very easily.Give Benson a bone and watch him float to heaven in utter bliss :D

Would suggest that you ask the pups breeder for advice as they will know the norm for the breed. I usually let my pups say when they are ready to drop a meal and up to the last one it has worked well but the last one would have spent his whole life on as may meals as I could be persuaded into giving him and I removed the 3rd feed when he was 8 months all the others have stopped themselves at around 5 months. We only feed puppy food up to about 4 to 6 months and then they go onto adult, as to amount I can only say they continue to have a larger amount until around 7 or 8 months when they drop to the adult amount. Have found that in most cases the amount that is on the food packet is too much food but you will only know from the way the dog looks. IMO particularly in a youngster slim is much better than overweight, time when they are fully grown to adjust so the body mass is as it should be.

As I said in the first sentence the person who would know best about your pup, apart from you, will be his breeder, what is normal in my breed may not be for yours, or if it comes to it, other members of my own breed.
