Took dog to vet today for annual check up/ booster. She's fine but the vet tells me she will need dental work - descaling - done at some stage. Vet recommended using Logic gel and providing dog with chews. She suggested rawhide but I'm not keen as they go straight through her and she always ends up in a horrible sticky mess. (She's a cavalier spaniel and rawhide gums her ears together a treat!!!) She's fed on Burns. Frequent camping trips means barf is not an option. Any suggestions for healthy chews, please. She is not fooled by the plastic nylabone type chews so it would have to be something she could "get her teeth into".
Many thanks.
I agree about rawhide, i would never feed my dog rawhide as i have heard so many worrying things about it.
Have you considered the smoked filled bones you can get in pet shops ? Some are better quality than others, and avoid the odd brands that have a chemical smell. I tend to scoop out most of the filling and leave some for the dog to find.
Do take the bone away though and swop for a chew when it is worn down though; i have given them to my dogs for years but i watch them and dont leave them alone with them.
I understand Fragaria is very very goood for descaling teeth.
