We are picking our golden retriever puppy up soon, i was wondering if anyone has any views on clicker training, should we start it from day one or should we wait till we go to classes?
Does anyone know of any good classes in the Berkshire Area?
Suggestions Welcome
Thanks

I'd say start from day one. Get yourself a good book and don't forget to just click and treat for a while to start with so that puppy understands that click = good.
The the fun begins!

http://www.apdt.co.uk/trainers_area.asp?area=BerkshireI can recommend Sarah Whitehead and Elizabeth Kershaw; both have written books/booklets on the subject which you could buy and start at home. You could also get the Motivation Movie available from Sarah's website made by Joanna Hill.

Elizabeth Kershaw is also based in Berkshire, I dont know if she still does training classes though :)
I'd say definately start from day one, but do familiarise yourself with clicker training first. Once you think you have the general idea, try it out on someone else. I know it sounds silly but it really cements the idea in your mind. Pick something you want that person to do but don't tell them, and then they try and figure out what it is by clicking when they get nearer, a bit like 'hot and cold'. I started from day one with my retriever (now 14 months) and she is doing so well, infact training wise she is almost at the same level as my two year old BC, whom i didn't start with until 5 months.
