Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Question about Phantom pregnancy
- By genie1 [gb] Date 30.06.04 02:46 UTC
I've been reading through the boards and seems there is a lot of topic's on phantom pregnancies. Alot of breeders are saying their bitch's have all the signs, etc and wondering if it's a true pregnancy or not. My question is if you have had a phantom pregnancy in one of your bitch's have you ever noticed the clear-whitish discharge during a phantom pregnancy??

I ask because when my bitch's have been pregnant I've always noticed the discharge and wondering during the phantoms if this was one sign that was not noted. I've always noted the discharge and seems to have been the one sure sign I could count on that the breeding was successful. I've actually noticed it as early as a couple weeks after the breeding took place and continued on throughout the pregnancy.

There are two types of false, or phantom, pregnancy. One is where the bitch has been mated and concieved, yet the pregnancy fails at an early stage and the embryos are absorbed. The other type is where the bitch hasn't been mated yet displays all the symptoms of pregnancy.

I must admit I've never noticed a discharge with any of my bitches when they were pregnant - perhaps they kept themselves too clean!
