Im taking my girl in for a scan tomorra i have been told to leave her at 8.30 and pick her up at dinner, I thought i would stay with her and watch or arnt you allowed. But from reading other posts people watch or how do they know if she was stood up or not do you get what im meaning.

I certainly would not leave my bitch at the vets for a scan. it is perfectly simple to attend aqt the given time and have it done in your presense. I don't pretend that I really see anything, but it is nice to see what is going on and to have the pups pointed out by the vet doing the scan.

me too.... let us know how it goes....

I have always stayed when mine have been scanned. I wouldn't want to put the bitch to any unavoidable stress.
Is she being ultrasound scanned or xrayed?

I have always stayed too, it only takes a few minutes, and you get to see the 'lumps' on the screen. Even when I have had to have a bitch x-rayed, I was in the waiting room the whole time.
bye
Gwen
when having my bitch scanned they took her into the room and scanned her without me being with her but i stayed in the waiting room for her, she wasn't in too long either

She is been ultrasound scanned, i will ask if i can stay with her, i found it strange that i had to leave her all morning, im paying around £40 and would of liked to be with her.
When my girl was scanned i went in with her,it didnt take too long but the vet pointed every little detail out to me and showed me what was what when he measured the foetus's,and then printed out some photo's of the scan.If i were you i would insist on being there too as i cant see why you need to leave her their for all that time?If its because he doesnt know when he can fit her in then tell him you will be available at the end of the phone as and when he is ready to scan(assuming he is local)as i really cant understand why he has said leave her their for all that time, when it only takes a few minutes??Good luck in whatever you decide to do,and make sure he prints you off some pics.

Where in the country are you?
I go to a lady who scans in her own home and is truly wonderful
she points out the pups and is pretty good at guessing.
You are with the dog 100% of the time and its only 17 pound.
If you let others know where you are there maybe someone like her near you.

In the adverts in the dog press there used to be ads from mobile scanners who travelled to your home to scan ...

My 'scanner man' is a horse scanner who travels to our home. Our girls have to stand up while he scans (which incidentely is easier said than done, because they always lie down and want their bellies rubbing..lol)
He charges £15 a time and is fantastic.
Theres no reason to leave your girl whilst scanning is done

I live in north yorkshire, im abit worried this morning that im been ripped off

Don't think you are being ripped off cash wise, the vet will give a check up and then a scan and £30 to £40 must be the going rate. But think you need to ask why you have to leave her and if it is a scan or x-rays. If the vet says if you leave her they will fit her in when they can, then say no you want an appointment and you want to be there and ask for an appointment latter this week, you want the vets attention and you want things explaned to you, so stick to your guns and ask for a proper appointment to have the dogs done at a particular time.

Thats what i think he will be doing is fitting her in when he can, but i made the appointment last wk and they gave me a few otions as when to bring her. as far as im aware its an ultrasound not exray that she will be having so there are no health issues to say i cant be with her is there. Also jackie how do you think i stand asking him to give her the lepto injection, i know it depends on what our area is like, could she have it if she is in whelp. Just refreshing my mind berfor i go!!!

Ask your vet about the injection, they will know the risks in the area and to the bitch of having or not having. Think your vet thinks they can push you around to suit themselves, don't let them, you pay the money so make sure you get what you pay for.

Hi just to let you know that vet has said its a NO NO to pups but has said for me to bring her in next week for a rescan FOC. Bit down in dumps now and miffed with vets as they were adiment that i couldnt stay with her.

Just to say having looked at he tummy they have shaved down the middle and to one side only, abit of a mess as well, looks quite red .

That is another reason for staying with them, if they need to shave you can make sure it is a minimum. Not a lot of use to have a bitch that isn't pregnant and then can't be shown until her coat regrows.
I had this happen when there was a misunderstanding between me and the vet. I was stood once side he the other, he asked if he could shave, and shaved a square window in her side. Having looked at her notes that her previous season had been prolonged he thought he was che3cking whether she had cystic ovarties, rather than for pregnancy. She had missed, and I was quite miffed, especially when I had to pay £54. Needless to ay I didn't go there again.

She had her scan laid down just checked with vets, i know there was an old post about this, does it make any difference. I was told at vets that it was a newish machine about 6months old, wondering now if they have just started this, the nurse told me that they had a dalmation in last week and it confirmed her pregnancy.

so any advise what to do next!!!!!!.

Treat her as if she's not pregnant and wait and see!
:)
Hi i would say treat her as if she IS pregnant, try not to pander to her every whim but let her eat a good quality food,as and when she wants it,providing she isnt a greedy bitch. In my experience i have found even the greediest of bitches go off their food to some extent and will eat only as and when they feel like it and need it.So leave food down for her and as i say providing she isnt a complete hog, lol, let her please herself just incase, these scans have been known to be wrong you know, even with large litters!!

Even when my girl was bleeding, my vet said to treat her AS PREGNANT until we know otherwise, she's now very heavy in pup!

Fair enough - but my vet recommends treating them as normal until pregnancy is confirmed, otherwise you run the risk of encouraging a really bad phantom ...
So, woomeg, do whatever
your vet advises.
:)

.......and my girl had been confirmed pregnant at the time, we just weren't sure if she was going to lose the whole litter so it was a little different ;-) treat her gently for the next week, get her rescanned, then if not pregnant try and get her back to normal as soon as possible
Thats right, like i said, dont pander to her too much(as this does tend to encourage phantoms to be more extreme),but just be aware that she could be and so let her tell/show you the signs as they invariably do,not many bitches will eat more than they really need, especially whilst in whelp or having a suspected phantom.

Hi I actually found a sheep farmer who would scan meg for me not too far away, i took her tonite and he did find what he thought was one pup but it was very high up and very near her rib cage, he couldnt tell if it was alive, he was concerned as there was a shadow that kept appearing. He thinks she may be absorbing but he couldnt guarantee that. Im taking her back to vets on tuesday for free scan, i know i cant say that i have had her scanned by someone else but he may of missed what we saw tonite, unless he did see it and is waiting to see what he finds next week. John(the farmer) said its a shame you cant tell him where to scan hehe. She was stood up as well. Im getting more worried by the hour, day etc

I understand how you must be feeling, because I have had bitches who have missed as well, and I was bitterly disappointed, but try not to worry. There is nothing you can do about it, and your agitation will transmit itself to Meg. Keep yourself as calm as possible and it will be better for her.

Why can't you tell the vet you had her scanned? He may not approve but at least you could tell him the findings and ask him to look in the same spot. I'd much rather say something then waste my time getting her scanned again by the vet and have him totally miss where to look. Especially if the possible pup is way up under her ribs. Because you may end up going to the vet all for nothing if he just looks everywhere but her under her ribs and comes to the same conclusion that there is no pups, then your right back where you started.

No one realy likes to be told how to do their job though do they, I understand what you are saying, and I will make up some story about her mother having this same problem and tell him where to scan!!!
