Crossed with what? If you try the rescue centres you may find a pure bred cocker for under £100. Thing is all breeds, whether pure bred, cross bred or mongrel will need the attention of the vet from time to time and that is not cheap, it is easy to spend over £100 in one visit. Sure you have considered this but may be you should do so again.

My friend has two cocker spaniel crosses, they cost her £300 + (each).  Just because a dog is a X breed if it is bred correctly with care and all the health tests done then it isnt going to cost much less than a pedigree.

I'm interested to know why it is you're looking particularly for a cocker cross?

One would think that the guest would like a cocker but thinks a cross would be cheaper, which is why I suggested trying the rescue socities.

Indeed!!  But one would also think that if the guest is keen on certain breed of dog, but isn't keen to pay a full pedigree price for a pup/adult, then they would take it upon themselves to go to a rescue centre and take on any of the numerous dogs that need a good home from there.  Having a limit on the cost of buying a breed you like the look of but don't mind what else it is crossed with to my mind is a bit odd, given the other numerous costs involved in owning a dog of any breed.
