On a number of occassions when I have used the local cash machine ( in the post office) it has given me £10 less than I asked for. At first I assumed it was because I had pressed the wrong amount but tonight I doublechecked before I pressed for the required amount and it did it ! So I know I never made a mistake this time. How do I prove it though as the  cash point concerned will say it never - although I am going to report it to NatWest themselves anyway and ask them to look into it. Its fraud isnt it because its not a one off mistake
Any ideas how I can prove it though?

I wd. go into the bank and advise them, they may know of the problem or if people have bothered to go in then they soon will do. 

I once had the opposite end of things where it was giving too much money, like a mug I went into the bank and told them and there was no thanks or anything!!   Funny, because that was NatWest too.

It all depends on whether you actually bank with NatWest.

If you do, they will be able to check their records and see what your account was debited with.  They can then check the ATM machine, which won't balance as there will be an extra £10 floating about in there.  You will eventually be reimbursed.

If you don't, they will get you to fill out a form, which will then be sent to your bank for them to fill in and send back.  Again, you will eventually get your money.

Unfortunately, it all takes time!  We had it happen quite a few times in the branch I worked in, but everyone did get their funds eventually.

Well I am thinking if they are paying ten pound less to everyone then there's a nice little surplus left over at the end and as far as Natwest know its all been paid to their customers :rolleyes:

They should know Lel, contact them and they should give you it.

I stopped at one of the service stations on the way to a show a couple weeks ago and tried to withdraw £200 as was going to buy some stuff.  It gave me my card back and I thought it hadn't done the transaction so I put the card in but it told me I had withdrawn my daily limit. Yikes.

200 miles from home I was not pleased.

I called the bank and they said to wait a couple hours as it would automatically go back in to my account and it did. I did call the company who owned the  machine and they said that happens sometimes if it runs out of money. I gave them a right telling off.   I am glad I was not short for a couple hours though and had a £10 for my lunch etc..

The counting systems are pretty accurate now so hopefully it won't be a problem.

my son had a similar experience with a cash machine attached to our local co op it didnt give him a penny but the machine says it did, he did get his money back but it took days to get it sorted report it to the bank who own the machine and also your own bank or building society and make sure that they give you a copy of the info you have reported

If they are 'link' machine's etc, then these machines do actually print off a reconcilliations report
of monies dispensed and monies actually topped up etc in the machine.
It should soon become clear that the monies requested by customers has exceeded the monies that
were in the machine.
Sometimes this happens when the machine is nearly empty, it will dispense what it has left so to speak.
The reason why it takes a couple of days to get your money back is because it may take them a couple of days
to go through all the reports checking and balancing each transaction.

where I used to work they had one of these machines, and I used to work in the same office as the lady that
had to reconcile all the daily transaction reports.

I should imagine that most cash machines will have a similar reconcilliation method.
