It is easy to find people to look after cats & dogs whilst you are away, but does anyone out there know of someone who could look after our ferrets when we go away.  (Portsmouth area).  Any information would be appreciated as I am struggling at the moment.

Thanks

I have seen places which advertise bunny care but not ferret care and I assume the same place wouldnt do both  If you cant find anyone in your area I am in Basingstoke and you are more than welcome to drop them off to me (as long as it isnt the first two weeks in August :) , I have spare hutches (assuming they are kept outdoors).

I take mine to the Ferret welfare, they do boarding and I understand most of them now do.  Do a search for the one nearest to see if they can help.

Typical

I dont think I can convince the boyfriend to have ferrets as well as the two cats, dog, chinchilla and snake (ok so I dont think he realises he is going to have to look after the chinchilla and snake )

Good luck with your search :)

Have you tried your vet? My vet clinic does boarding also which is great cause I know they are have care if needed.

I would take them, just love ferrets, but Im way too far away :( I keep mine indoors (house pets) :)

Can you not have someone come in and watch them like a family member and pay them for ferret/animal sitting?

Hello all, many thanks for the advice, I will start asking around the local ferret welfare centres.

Unfortunately, we have no family who live down here so there really isn't anyone to ask.

We will sort something out that's for sure.

I loved my Ferret, her name was Freda and she was given to me by a gamekeeper who found her in the woods, I used to take her out walking with the dogs and she would go down rabbit holes on her extending lead .  She escaped from her hutch twice, the first time she was in season and got out of her run luckily someone handed her into the vets.  The second time a spiteful ex-boyfriend left her hutch open and I never saw her after that :(

I suppose if you arent used to them they can be a bit scary, Freda was so lovely though and so inquisitive, she knew if people didnt like her though she would chase my brothers girlfriend all round the house and garden :D :D :D

Try the Mercia ferret forum.
there are so many good peeps on there.
There is bound to be someone on there that can help.
Good luck. I would have them no bother but I'm in the North East.
I have 5 at the mo'. Two rescues and three house ferts.

I've posted on Mercia to see if there is anyone who could help.

Many many thanks for your help, I have been searching the web for days and have found a lady who rescues ferrets in Farnborough.  She will gladly board them for us which is great.

I will however still have a look at the web site you suggest.

Thanks again to everyone for helping.
