Topic Other Boards / Foo / Which food for cats ?
- By ClaireyS Date 28.06.04 08:57 UTC
My cats have burns biscuits left down all day for them (or "up" should I say out of the dogs reach :) )  I like to feed them something meaty in the morning and in the evening.  They were getting a tin of tuna between them in the morning then cooked coley / cod in the evening.  I have read recently on here that too much tuna might be bad for them so I brought them a selection of things at tescos at the weekend.  The dont like kippers/salmon/pilchards/sardines they do however like prawns.  I used to feed them raw chicken drumsticks (they didnt like wings) but anything raw tends to go straight through them.  IF I ever cook chicken they have a bit which they love but being a veggie I dont tend to cook it too often ( would you believe) although it looks like I might have to start.  I have tried them on what I feed the dog, they will eat naturediet occasionally, they turn their noses up at tripe but will pick at minced turkey.  I really dont want to feed tinned food  because I have read the c#ap that goes into it but I have a feeling next door feed them tinned stuff because their wind smells like kit-e-kat :D :D

Ideally they would eat the small mammals they constantly bring home but as they arent served in a pretty purple bowl I suppose they dont see them as dinner - just a present for mum

Does anyone have any suggestions, as being a non meat/fish eater im not very up on different types.

Claire :)

Hi Claire,

Anglian Meat Products (AMP) do frozen roast chicken which you buy in big bags and just dig some out to defrost in whatever size portions you need.  Haven't tried our cat on it, but the dogs love it and being a veggie it might suit you as you haven't got to cook it?

You can normally buy it from major pet stores.

Think the ones you buy from pet shops are 2Kg, which would last a cat a fair while, so not too bad on freezer space.  You could always separate into smaller bags to make it squeeze into spaces easier and just pull one out at a time for defrosting :D
