I also have a hairy breed! I give a "maternity clip" about 10 days before the due date. Around the vulva and a strip along the nipples. Any long hair left must be well groomed as pups can get their heads caught in a noose!!

I certainly used to! If you say that you don't want a "full MOT" just a maternity clip, it only takes a few minutes and they should be able to fit you in. Depends on how heavily coated your Goldie is? Some have light feathering, others very thick and long.

Hi woomeg, I very much doubt it would be neccessary to clipper the undercarriage of a Golden Retriever.
I had an American Cocker litter last year, and would like to have saved the bitchs coat by tying it in little bunches. In the end I was too scared that the pups would get into difficulties amongst the hair, so I clippered her off, nothing much was left on the legs or tummy. It took a year to grow back fully, but she's now back in the ring.

She is quiet a long haired retriever

Also bear in mind that the ibtch will naturally loose the hair arouund ther nipples, it is hormonal, so you may find that combing the hair out towards the end of pregnancy will be enough, unless of co8urse whe has overlong feathers. Never a problem with my thick coated breed.

I always clip my girls tummies during the summer, I leave their skirts, but their bellies are bare.....not noticable when they are standing, my vet always clips when she scans so I just make sure they are done before I get there........lol.

I clip my girls around the nipples and to the side of the nipples, actually the full stomach up to near enough the front legs. I also trim around the vulva and I also clip the inside of the back legs. Bear in mind though that mine do have a fair length curly coat, but I just worry that something might happen to a pup if I don't.

Admin Have i spoken out of term please advise

We have to be very careful about how we discuss upcoming litters, metnioning the breed etc in the posts, general ones are fine, so that it doesn't appear that we are advertising the puppies. :D
