I've never tried prizechoice but have changed to barf lately and am using a company to supply my meats that I would recommend 100%.
Let me know if your interested and I'll give you the info...much cheaper than prize choice too
Archer
Hi Archer, that would be great if you could give me the info, greatly appreciated! :) THANKS.
Archer, would you mind giving us the info too (if they deliver to Surrey) as I'm looking at all my choices before I change over to BARF - Thanks :)

Hi Archer,
If you wouldn't mind, I would love to have the address also, as I have just started barfin' my crew, first day with chicken wings today :-)

Hi guys
sorry it took so long to reply...been to work!
I use a supplier called Landywoods. They are a family run business who deliver free to most of england and wales(and are expanding delivery areas..so phone to check).
I like the fact that the meat is from slaughter to freezer in maximum of 24 hours and that its fit for human consumption .Also no additives, preservatives etc.The service is great aswell.Your food is made 'to order' and the meat and veg which mine adore can be made to your specifications.
My tribe have tried the tripe, chicken(love the coarse mince),tripe and organ meat, meat and veg, liver, lamb and will be expanding our 'menu' next order. They all eat all the food with enthusiasm..even my fussy boy who used to eat every third day.
They have an excellent website....www.landywoodpetfoods.co.uk....give it a look.
Let me know what you think...I'm 100% satisfied and the cost of the food is VERY reasonable.
Archer
Hi Archer, thanks for the info! Will call them tomorow. :)
Hi Archer, I also use landywood and found their meats excellent - it's like how it used to be years ago - its not a mush but actually a mince. Mine love the meat and two veg variety and I have just tried them on the heart and veg and chicken and veg mixes which went down a treat. They are at this moment tucking into marrow (dinasor) bones. I also get rib bones and occasionally breast of lamb from them.

Hi Rugrott
haven't tried mine on the heart and veg or chicken and veg so will give them a try.Like the sound of the rib and lamb breast aswell...buy them from the butchers occasionally cos the boys love them but they're so expensive!!

Hi anyone who can help
I want to go back to the 'proper feeding' that I did years ago, so was really chuffed to find out about Landywood. At the moment tripe is nearly 40p 1b locally, and I can only buy chicken wings from supermarkets for human consumption. So I got the Landywood details from their website and rang with an order, but they don't deliver to Hampshire. Does anyone know of a firm that does, or somewhere fairly near where I can collect frozen meat.

Look in your yellow pages for poultry wholesalers etc, farm shops, abbattoirs etcyou could also try Tony at Dorwest Herbs (on the net) as he is very good at sourcing suppliers.

Have checked Yellow Pages as suggested. No abbatoirs within 40/50 miles, and have just rung a couple of
poultry farms (no wholesalers listed), but they quoted price higher than Tesco!! I would really like to use
tripe as well as chicken wings. I will speak to Dorwest at Windsor Ch Show - I get a fair bit of stuff from them.
The supplier I use was once the cheapest and best in area - supplying trade and retail, but they say
prices have gone up so much because of EU regulations that they now sell very little frozen meat - mostly
dried complete food.
I saw sacks of dried meat in a pet retailer recently - while I know it's not as good as frozen, would it be
any good? The meat seemed to have some quite large chunks in it.

Hi pjw
if you do find anyone who delivers to Hampshire could you let me know because I intend to change my pup onto BARF and have the same problems as you.
Thanks
Claire

Are the sacks you saw lungs?

I have tried a couple of the firms already and am outside the delivery area, but they gave me some local stockists. However at 45/50p for 1lb tripe it is no go. i will try the rest of the names. The dried meat wasn't lungs - I took a couple of pounds to try, and after soaking it went like rather gristly pieces of beef, with a lot of very very small pieces. I just wonder if much nourishment is lost in the drying process. Years ago I used to feed tripe, wheatmeal and cooked veg, and I am sure the dogs looked healthier and they always lived well past 12 - which seems to be rare now.
Hi whereabouts in Hampshire are you? I know landywood are moving premises over the next two months and it could be that they are not taking on any new areas so that they don't become over-streched during their move and a few weeks afterwards but I am sure they know someone who could deliver to you good meat products.

RUGROTT You use Landywoods and advertise it on here because ITS YOUR COMPANY
and I dont think it should be allowed if others arent allowed to advertise their dogs, pups, business etc etc.

Actually XTC it was ME who first recommended Landywoods.....so even if Rugrott did own it it wasn't down to her that it was mentioned on this site.
Why register to come on and cause arguements???

I have just started using Landywood and I am very pleased with the quality and the dogs love it.
They don't yet deliver to where I live in Wiltshire (hopefully they will next year I was told when I asked) but they do deliver to Derby where my husbands company has an office he needs to go to regularly so they will deliver to him there and he brings it home.
Jackie
Hi, does anybody know if Landywood have a minimum order on their deliveries? they sound very good and good quality meat according to this forum, would like to give them a try. Thanx ;)
By archer
Date 24.06.04 19:55 UTC
Landywoods minimum order is £50
I purchase a mixture of different varieties...usually get about 216 lb of food for around £60....that will last me about 10-11 weeks.(4 dogs)Archer

Vvlast the supplier I use has put it's prices quite a lot higher than those on Landywoods site, but I have a tiny chest freezer and can only buy 120lbs fo frozen at the most. :(
I am now paying 28plb for mincned chicken, and the price of Turkey necks and Chicken carcass has gone way up, even their economy mince is 26plb. Also when you add the small delivery charge it adds another 1.5p per lb to the cost.
Also do you have to buy whole trays of 32lb or canyou buy the number of ;bs of each product you want?
By archer
Date 25.06.04 07:25 UTC
Hi Barbara
apart from the necks, liver, hearts etc (which you can get in smaller quantities) yes you buy 36lb trays of one type of meat.Usually order 6 lots of different meat...36 lb of each.
It worked out soo much cheaper for me I went and bought a new chest freezer to accomodate it....will save me money in the long run.
The food is excellent and as I've said before I love the fact its frozen so quicly after slaughter and that your order is made to your specifications.
Nikki

I just don't have room for a freezer, as it is I bought this little one and it is in a corner next to the computer in what should be the dining room. :(
Is the meat and vetg mix good, trying to work out which 3 would make a good balnce, perhaps alternating with another 3 products the next time.
Seems they only come to Bristol monthsly :(

Hi barbara
the meat and veg mix is lots favourite. Its a mixture of tripe and chicken(carcass)heart and veg I believe but they will make it up to your specifications so you can have in it whatever you want.
Mine also go mad for the tripe and organ mix and they prefer the coarse ground chicken to the fine....more texture!Shame your not at Blackpool tomorrow....could have bought you a couple of blocks along(well wrapped) to try!

BTW ....my freezer has to 'live' in the shed...no room either!!
Nikki
Nikki,
Can I just ask what size your freezer is - we're having to get a new chest freezer and was wondering what size I'd need to hold approx 200lb of meat :)

Not dure but it is the smallest size chest freeezer basically square. You would need one twice the size to hold 200lb of meat, as wehn I get 120lb I still need to put some in a drawer in my fridge freezer.

ICE COSMOS
I bought a 18cft freezer and 200+ lbs take up just under 1/2 of it so I would guess 9-10 cubic ft would be on the safe side
Archer

That sounds about right as I think mine is 4. somthing cubic feet.
Pjw,
Did you say 40/50p?? I live in Australia and it costs me $5.00 for 1 kilo of green tripe,i cant believe you are complaing, you are paying next to nothing, talk about lucky!!

Wouldn't use Landywood meats. VERY unreliable, never turned up on time when we used them, never rang to say why, very very unreliable. Forgive me if this has been mentioned but TPMS are excellent, they do EVERYTHING, cooked and raw, brilliant service, never let us down. Anyone interested I will post phone number, they are in Midlands and do weekly deliveries around different parts of the country.

You are lucky! They were forever letting us down and we were ordering 500lbs a month! Never known such a poor service and in the pet trade business they are known for it (so we were told). Never again!!

Well I have used this company for well over 12 months now ordering 1000 a month of tripe and have never been let down. The quality of the meat is the best I have come across having previously used suppliers in Worcs and Birmingham. If they have been unable to deliver on the usual delivery day they always ring beforehand to advise.

Maybe because they have lost such a lot of custom, they can provide a better service to the remaining ones, I hope it continues for you.

Thanks for recommending the company Landywood petfood,i contacted them straight away and placed my order, i found them very efficient and very resonably priced ,and the quality of meat seems top quality to me.good enough for me to eat.LOL
I have used many companys over the years notably Bambers and became dissillusioned with the prices and or quality.I will definately be re-ordering with Landywood petfoods again.

barf what's that i have heard of it i think?

i feed minced chicken which costs me 13p per lb but this comes in 18kg boxes not seperately bagged, i can get chicken, beef, lamb, tripe, rabbit in 1lb packs which is all between 18 and 22p per lb..i also feed carcasses which are only 7p per lb which is cheaper for me than feeding a decent kibble and the dogs prefer it and seem better for it.in this area (north east) 20p per lb for mince seems about average for minced meats.

Goodness you are lucky. I worked out that my minced meat, carcasses and necks, with 10lbs of liver 120lbs in total plus the delivery charge of £1.55 bring my price per lb to 32. :(

i suppose its just falling in lucky, the largest poultry processor in europe is about 50 miles from me and in a nice country area so its just a matter of making a day out of it when we go for the stuff (the carcasses and large boxes of mince, the 1lb bags of mince i get delivered),there is also an abatoir 4 miles from me which sells heart and liverr etc for £5 for a bin liner full, never tried it yet but friends have and rate it pretty good.where in the uk are you brainless,is it a north / south divide thing do you reckon.
