KC Reg means that the dog is registered with the Kennel Club and is therefore eligible to take part in all events held under Kennel Club rules - including Crufts (if it qualifies, of course!).

It also means that the parentage of the dog is verifiable.

May I add that the ability of being able to trace the ancestry of a dog is more important than may at first seem, you should be able to find out from the registration any structural or health problems that may be in your dogs genetic make up. It may require a fair bit of digging but if you plan to breed or in the sad occurrence of your dog being taken ill it is very useful. It does also mean that if you do breed the pups can in their turn be registered.

Add to that the fact that most responsible breeder will either register with the Kennel Club or not at all and most people would advice against buying from someone who registers with one of the other commercial registration companies, they have been set up by retail outlets to register puppies coming from puppy farms and back yard breeders, one has to suspect to fool the gullible public that they are buying a Kennel Club registered dog.

I think whoever told you that was getting mixed up with DLRC (Dog Lovers Registration Club) with these papers you can't enter any KC registered event, they are not worth the paper that they are written on.

If you are after a pup you are better with the KC papers than DLRC unless the DLRC dog is a lot cheaper and you don't want to show or do any KC events.

and you don't care if it was bred on a puppy farm and you are happy to encourage the breeding of pups in such conditions.

So to sum it up...
KC=A DOG THAT YOU CAN SHOW AND THAT YOU CAN TRACE THE PARENTAGE OF WITH SOME CERTAINTY
ANY OTHER REG=A DOG WHOS PARENTAGE CANNOT BE VERIFIED AND WHICH CANNOT COMPETE IN SHOWS(APART FROM COMPANION SHOWS).
This is very 'black and white'...but there are good and bad in everything so the main thing is when buying a pup to do your 'homework'!!
