Feed less, exercise more.

Priceless advice from tohme (if a little brief) ;-)

Forget what it says on the bag, and what you feed to any other dogs that you may have. I've got three adult labrador bitches and they all get different amounts of the same food, and none of them get the amount it says on the bag!

Follow tohmes advice and your dog WILL lose weight, the only trick is knowing how much less food to give and how much more exercise is required.

If you are struggling for time with exercising then get the dog to work harder during the time it gets. (eg retrieving, swimming or following a bike)

Watch the amount of treats she gets. My mother & father-in-laws dogs always lose weight when they come to me as they dont get the constant supply of biscuits and hide chews. (I actually probably feed them more at meal times!)

If you are still struggling send her to me for a month! She WILL lose weight LOL ;-)

gradually reduce her food and keep a check on her weight loss you will eventually know how much food your lab needs to maintain her ideall weight and keep her at that.. but exercise will do her good in a field maybe where she can run around rather than walking on a lead... so long as she will come back on recall...

Just curious how old is your lab and what kind of food do you feed?

Taz is 10 and a half and I use to feed him senior food then weight management, I found that not worth it. Then I started just feeding him (I have them on Nutro Natural Choice Lamb n'rice) the normal lamb n' rice with less food and I added in green beens for fillers, he started to lose weight. Now I don't add beens in anymore since he is getting older he doesn't eat as much as he use to and exercise is only going around one block maybe two depending how he is, any further he will buckle under. He limps on his front leg and back legs, hipdysplasia and arthritis :( But I can feel his ribs :) he weighs between 158-162 pounds.
