Hi Guest presuming your bitch and the prospective sire have been hip scored and eye tested and both meet the breed standard, have good temperments, good confirmation and have pedigrees that compliment each other,I would suggest you have a ovulation test done by your vetinary surgeon to see if she has ovulated and is ready! maiden bitches can often be nervous but she should be flagging her tail  to the dog.
I would never condone forcing a bitch but calmly holding her head and reasurring her may well help :)

i want to reiterate what kao kate said about all the health testing and temperment testing.  VERY IMPORTANT.
if you allow two dogs to breed that haven't been deeded "perfect", or what is close to perfect as far as breed standard goes, you are doing something very irresponsable.  please please think carefully before you let them mate.

I am suprised that the stud dog owner is bringing the dog to you, it is far more usual to take the bitch to the dog. Have you chosen to use a maiden dog on a maiden bitch if so that could be the problem. Go back to your bitches breeder and see if they can suggest a suitable stud that knows his job and make sure the stud handler knows what they are doing and instruct you how to handle your bitch.

But I would not reintroduce the stud to the bitch until you have had the bitch tested by a blood test to make sure she is ready.

It goes without saying you should have done the tests needed by you breed clubs and associations and you are aware what will or could happen once your dog is in whelp. If your are in any doubt what you are doing and what the likely cost will be then please wait till the next season and join the forum so you can find out what the best course of action is before mating your bitch.
