there seems to be some people that use them and some that don't, i am trying to decide whether to fit them to my whelping box, and i would appreciate peoples opinions please.

Emma

p.s it is for a SBT maiden bitch

No experienc of SBTs I am afraid, but I always use pig rails, I like to minimise any risk, and this is such a simple method.

I've heard they give some peace of mind. I'll be using them with my next litter x

I used them in the lovely whelping box I prepared.  They were very useful for the first 24hrs and then my bitch decided that she had a better idea as to where she wanted the pups kept and hasn't been back in the box since!

I am so glad it didn't cost me much to make.

I would say use them, a few cheap broom handles is all it takes, I learnt the hard way and sadly lost a pup last year, due to mum sitting on her, it was her first litter so a little inexperienced, pup was also very small, they had only been left alone for 10 mins max.  :-(
