Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I will give a little history on this so you can get the idea. I have a bitch that is due to whelp any time now. She is 66 days from the first breeding, 65 from second and it's day 63 from the last breeding. She is suppose to be having a small litter but I'm not sure about that based on movement, weight gain etc. This is my first litter with her .she is my first home bred champion also. I have had two other litters with her mother. I am getting anxious now. She has no real signs yet. Her temperature has been around 99.5 but in the middle of the night when I take it it's lower. two nights ago it was 98.4 but goes right up in the morning. Today her temp has been a little higher 99.9 and 100. I heard that it can go up at times around 24 hours right before whelping. Have any of you heard of this? my experience has been, though limited, is that it usually drops.
I just want her to start panting or something. She is a very fit and muscular girl.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

hi there,, how are things??? normal temp is atround 101f or 38.3c and when about to whelp this will start to decend to 99f 37.2c or even as low as 97f 36.2cthis is a clear indication that things are really happening.. Not all bitches shake or dig etc one of my girls panted like mad and shook like a tree and dug like crazy lol.. but i have my sisters girl here at the moment and she was showing hardly any signs,, her temp went down to 36.7 on the tuesday morning started digging a little not much not much panting and no shaking, water sac broke at 5.50pm she had 1st pup at 6.03pm she will also lose a clear sticky discharge....
Well, Things are the same. Her temp is 99.4 this morning. she is 64 days from the last breeding and 67 from the first. she acts a little different during the nights. swallows hard and alot of licking. other than that she just sleeps and acts normal regarding eating etc. i'm tired because i keep checking her in the night. I know I just have to be patient. Someone mentioned to me that the pups become less active right before whelping. Even with a small litter?
I'm so ready. I can't prepare any more! :)
I have a feeling this is how my bitch is going to be. At least it looks that way now! Do bitches with primary inertia still show signs of whelping before? I'm assuming they do and are just not able to have strong contractions or at all. Is that right? I know I'm being paranoid :)

Hi, i had a bitch five years ago with primary inertia and she showed all signs of whelping, restlessness panting, scratching up her beding, even the first water bag appeared but no contractions. She had to have a caesarean section and the vet said it was because she was very full of puppies , seven but they were very large for our breed.
