Topic Dog Boards / General / Rig permits in Surrey?
- By ice_cosmos Date 21.06.04 20:58 UTC
Hi there,

Just wondering if any Sibe or Mal owners who work their dogs can tell me if there is anywhere in Surrey you can obtain a permit to use a rig for training purposes. We live near Guildford and the closest we've found so far is Bracknell forest. I'd appreciate any help you can give :)

Being nosey :D Why do you have to have a permit and can you use a rig anywhere? More info please.

Hi Ice

My new dogsitter has 5 sibes that she races, if you pm/email me I could give you her number.  She lives in Yateley, but may know of somewhere out your way

Hi Admin,

You can use a rig on private land but not on public land - so this restricts where you can train. However, sometimes the forestry commision allow you to purchase a permit to use their land to train on - which is what i'm looking for :)

During the F&M we saw some Sibes being exercised in Alice Holt Forest, near Farnham.   Don't know if this might be a possibility.

Hi,

When I first looked for permits, I contacted the Forestry Commission via e-mail saying that I was prepared to travel up to two hours from where I live. They were brilliant and forwarded my mail to the local offices, who in turn contacted me about permits available in their area :) I know we did a couple of rallies at Buttersteep and Yateley which must be near you....

Not that I know anything about husky racing but I have seen it at Wellington Country park which is inbetween Basingstoke and Reading.  Dont know if that helps or not :)

No, Wellington and country parks like it have one-off events but don't allow training (that I know of). Most training is done on Forestry Commission ground :) They set aside particular areas (often accessible only by key) where you can park up, stake your dogs and then use the trails in that area.

Thanks for that - its a very good idea! I went to the Yately rally - it would be great if I could get a permit to train there as it would only be about 1/2 hr from us :)
