could you explain to me what they are sorry if im been stupid
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 20.06.04 19:11 UTC
They are cross breeds bred by people to improve their bank balance, known as designer dogs. They have no advantage over the breeds used to produce these mongrels, in this case GR's Labs and Poodles all of which are good dogs and do not require to be bastardised.

i gather you are not joking who would want to have a crossbreed from a golden Ret and a poodle im sorry for sounding awful but i think it is laughable, but obiously it is not funny, these sort of breeds cant be recognised by kc can they
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 20.06.04 19:27 UTC
No they are not, there are all sorts of people breeding all sort of crosses just to make money.

Now perhaps you understand why lots of people get really narked by all the 'I want to breed' posts.  Sadly there are many people out there who breed all sorts of crosses, call them silly names- all in the name of money!!

In case anyone thinks I've trying to keep a closed shop on breeding for myself (given the tone of many threads recently), I'm not - I've never bred and never will - I've only ever had and only will have rescue dogs.  However, I do want breeding to be carried out by those who have the best interests of the breed as uppermost in their minds.

What wise words Bengidog.  And you've been around long enough to know the true atmosphere on this board!

Well said!
I too have not bred but the fact that when I take my pup out with my older 2 elks(all brought in) so many people assume I bred him...says it all...want a pup ? Just let your dogs mate and 'hey presto'...cheap answer!

Been a bit tied up most of the day and just logged on to find this! Glad you have all answered it, it saves me getting into trouble yet again on the same subject as usual :(

I'm just as against "designer" dogs as everyone else, but I don't think the Guest was asking about breeding them herself.  She just wants to buy one, as is her right.  I would advise her that they're not a recognised breed, however, and that I wouldn't expect to pay any more for a labradoodle than any other crossbreed puppy. :)

Unfortunatly it does not work like that BennyBoo. These dogs tend to start at around £500 and go up from there! It is a licence to print money.

That's the point though!! So called 'Breeders' of Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Cockapoos, or whatever, are charging more, for these so called designer breeds.

I think previous posters were pointing out the disadvantages of encouraging such people, and that breeding dogs should not be taken lightly.

Edited to add: Must have been typing away as John posted!!

Hi guest, why not contact breeders of the breeds (Poodle, Lab GR) and meet some of their dogs, to decide which breed you really like.  With one of the 'desigenr mongrels" you have very little idea of what you will end up with, in terms of size, coat etc., as the  ingredients" blend differently in each case.  Or if you want something very unique, go along to a Rescue centre, and adopt one of the many thousands of mongrels or cross breds desperate for a home?  You can pcik something which looks truly different.  Of course, if you choose a puppy you are back with the problem of not know how it will turn out, looks and size wise,  but lots and lots of adult dogs are in needs of good, loving homes, and you will be able to pick the dog who appeals best.
bye

Think we are replying to Woolmeg who asked what they were. Can't answer the guests question and I apologise for not saying so.
