Looking at the breeders pages ive noticed lots of inported dogs living in UK kennels. I was wondoering howpeople go about getting an inport pup/dog. I dont want to get one myself, no room lol, but was wondering how people manage to gain the trust of breeders in other countries i.e. US since its so far away.

Because people who own and love a breed communicate with one another, not just within the UK but worldwide. They are not strangers, they know one another and the details of one another's stock.

So if someone, who's stock you admire, is planning a litter you ask if they may agree to your importing one of the pups or sometimes you can get someone to part with an adult if you can convince them that the dog is need to help you with your breeding plans.

Well I can't speak for others but in my case I contacted the breeder about a photo in a breed publication that I admired.

From this a regular correspondence ensued, and when it transpired that she was mating two of the bitches daughters to two completely unrelated sires a plan started forming in my mind.

I spoke to friends who also were interested in the possiblility of bringing in this stock we admired and a syndicate of four friends was formed to cover the expense of importing, Quarantine and the dogs upkeep and showing.

The idea was to have a male from each of the half sisters, and as the sires were unrelated this would give us a chance to mate the offspring of each dog, thereby giveing more scope for using the imported blood.

Sadly one of the bitches missed, and we only got one boy, but are very pleased with his first progeny, and the fact he has done well himself is a bonus.

Well, we go across to the USA for the breed specialities at least once if not twice each year, are in constant contact by e-mail and phone with fellow breeders around the world, and in the instance of our most recent import, Mike was judging in Scandinavia a couple of years back, and saw a bitch he very much admired.  He discussed her pedigree with her breeder after the show, kept in touch with her, told her he would be interested in a pup when she did her planned mating sometime in the future, and last year Keeper was born in Finland, came to us in the Autumn, and one of ours is making a trip to Finland soon to that breeder.

One of the wonders of the WWW is that the doggy world got a whole lot smaller, I get info and photos of litters born all over the world, and can discuss them with the breeders day by day.  Distance no object, really!
bye
