Have just been getting over a worrying time involving lumps on my bassets' ears. I know all of us tend to think the worse...and it turns out to be nothing untoward. However, as the vet is so puzzled by these hard little lumps on her outer ears...it prompts me to ask if anyone has experienced problems with squirrels v dogs. As soon as I mentioned that we have squirrels on our land (only 2 !), he seemed to latch onto this being the possible cause.
She's more than up-to-date with her Frontline treatment as the Vet recommended additional treatment before her 'official' due date...we've also been using a medicated shampoo every night for a week on her ears and there have been no additional lumps occuring since.
His diagnosis of bites was due to the fact that he could pick off a tiny scab from each lump.
Has anyone experienced anything similar at all?
Also, I would of thought/hoped/expected that Frontline was sufficiently strong enough to prohibit this...regardless of the fact that squirrels are obviously heavy carriers of fleas
Anyway...as I always say...your comments are much appreciated

I'd be very suprised if Frontline would not clear fleas from just about any normal UK animal. I have Squirrels, around six that regularly use the garden and possibly several hundred in the woods I walk over, all with no ill effects.

Sorry to say this but it sounds like a vet clutching at straws to me. Could be wrong of course.

Thanks John...that wasn't what I wanted to hear...but it was...if you see what I mean. :)
Clutching at straws certainly rings true to us also.
Shall be a little 'firmer' at the vets on Monday with that knowledge you've shared.
