HI everyone,  Just to let everyone know (coz lots of you aksed to be kept informed) Jennifer had her "muzzle"removed at the vets today, and everything is looking very good indeed!  We have another appointment in 2 weeks time to see how things are healing without the support of the muzzle.  Only bad news is her weight loss - she has dropped 1kg (she only weighed 6.2kg to begin with ).  However, you never saw such a happy puppy as Jennifer when she got her supper tonight.  She is now allowed back on "propper" food, rather than the invalid diet.  It has to be soft (no biscuits, chews etc allowed for the next 2 weeks) so she is back to having her puppy Eukanuba soaked to soften, then mixed with goats milk - I dont think she could believe it when she saw the big dish instead of the cat saucer she has been getting!

Because she has been forced to keep the jaws closed for over 3 weeks she cant open her mouth very much yet, and I am not allowed to try to clip her face until after the next examination.    But it is such a relief to see her with all the contraptions on her little head :)  :)

bye
Gwen

I must have missed what has happened. Would someone be so kind as to inform me on Jennifer's problem or supply a link to an original message?

Whatever happened to her, this is wonderful news and I send lots of get-well hugs to your puppy! Happy eating to her!

poor litle poppet, they can be so brave and stoical our canine friends.

Dont worry Gwen. I had my jaw wired together for 4 weeks, and it took a good few weeks to get the muscle back in my jaw to be able to chew things( the slush diet was gradually decreased and I started to eat harder and harder things each day!!!!!!!! )
I dont know wether dogs would feel the same, but I actually felt scared of eating harder foods, as I tried too soon, and it hurt. So advice from a human that knows the feeling. Gradually harden the food so not to scare her!!!!!!!!
Glad she is getting back to being 'herself' :)
Give her plenty of TLC and a hug from me.
Lea :)

Hi everyone - Lel, its actually 3 weeks and 5 Days!  She had the muzzle etc on 3 weeks gone Wednesday, but the injury occured the Sunday of that week.

Sibelover- Jennifer was attacked whilst walking in the park, and it turned out her jaw was fratured.  She is a 6 month old Am . cocker, and has spent the last 3 + weeks with a surgical muzzle contraption to prevent her opening her mouth, and an elizabethan collar to stop her geting at the muzzle!

We have our next Vets visit 2 weeks today, and she mmust stay on soft food until then.

Thanks for all the concern.  She is a very special and brave little girl.  One thing that delighted me yesterday was her reaction ot other dogs at the vets, as I have been seriously worried how she would react.  there was a poodle cross in the waiting room, and she didnt bother about it at all, then a lab/lurcher cross type came in, and she stiffend, had a tiny growl, then relaxed completely, so I think I can be hopeful that she will recover on this side of things too.
bye

Hi Gwen,

I'm so glad she is on the mend.  I think it's especially hard watch puppies when they have long post-op recoveries.  I know it was with Abby, she need to wear an Elizabethan collar for a nearly 6 weeks for two different surgeries.  And then trying to slow them down to stop them from reinjuring themselves is so stressful.

Betcha she's awfully glad to be on the mush diet :-)  In a short while the two of you will nearly forget it happened.
