I love football, i have flags in my windows but watching the news this morning i felt very ashamed and angry of the few English people that feel they need to be violent and spoil it for everyone else,
yes we are all upset that England didnt win on sunday, but if those fans keep on behaving like this England will be banned from euro 2004,
they are also spoiling peoples holidays out there, i hope they are totally disgusted with themselves but i doubt it, people like that dont care,
sorry to moan, but this made me feel very angry this morning.

I agree, there is no need to behave in that matter. They really do put us to shame...

They aint fans and it probably had nothing to do with us losing to France. Sounds to me that they are a bunch of thugs who have used the finals as an excuse to arrange fighting. Sad and annoying thing is that they are English thugs who continue to give our country and our team a bad name - I say zero tolerance...Lock 'em up

you have to rember its only a small amount of people going out for the soul purpose of causing trouble :( shame the police here havent sorted them out and stopted them going ,
I was watching a interview with a couple on there hunnymoon they were on a balcony and saw everything unfold aparently there was a small fight not too many people but the police came and hit a girl on the head with a batton and her head started pouring with blood , the fans then went mental .
If thats true i can understand why they would get annoyed unfortunatly english suporters are well known for trouble so it will always hit front page . you never hear about the other countries fighting yet they do . I have friends in turkey and was planning on going to a football match with a few , the advice given was not to go because they like to fight with knifes . later that year our leeds suporters got stabbed :(

Have to say I'm not ashamed to be English -
if these idiots choose to act like this I hope they suffer the consequences ( as the fireman chap has today ) and pay for acting like idiots
Have to agree with Lel here -I'm not ashamed ! -I have no connection with those people and so will feel no shame for them -they can have it all !To be quite honest I'm browned off with the British press telling us how bad we are whatever we do and wherever we go
We spoke to a bloke in Greece last year and his comments were ''If you think the English are bad then you should see the ******** ( I've censored it myself to avoid WW3 ;) ) but somewhere was mentioned .

I think the media have a LOT to do with how English fans are portrayed. I have been brought up in a football loving family and my boyfriend is the same so we watch many games, from many countries. Football violence is not unique to the British fans, but they do get involved which is of course totally wrong. I wonder how much taunting goes on by the other countries fans, picking on the Brits because they know they have the reputation for it. In the 70's and 80's I would agree that English fans were nothing more than hooligans, but now a druncken scuffle (which could happen any where at any time) is classed as football hooliganism. I am not trying to defend any one here, violence is wrong, full stop. But I think the English get a rough deal in tournaments like this and I am glad that UEFA will only kick England out of the comp if there is actual violence in the stadiums, which seems fair, after all, this is where the true fans are.

I agree with you my brothers are out there and my neighbours too , they have said the police came into a bar the other night looking for trouble it was a all quiet in there until then as soon as someone shouts or looks drunk the ploice get heavy causing fans to react, the general atmosphere out there is good and MOST are behaving well and enjoying the sun and the football ... I am not ashamed to be British at all most sports have problems with fans and i think the FA have done a lot to stop it but of course where there is drink their can be trouble no different to Friday nights in town.......
I am definitely not ashamed to be English.
I do have a grumble though - my husband blithly told me that the football would be over by about 6.45 last night so that should make me happy - It did, until I realised what was on TV for the rest of the evening - news (about football), reviews (about football) ad infinitum - or should that be nausium!
One good thing is coming out of it though, my pup is getting some additional training in the cool of the evening :D
