I have woken up this morning wtih horrible toothache, a huge mahoooosive cavity in one of my molars, and it reallly hurtsssssssssssssssss (i want my mummy).

anyway, managed to get an emergency appointment this afternoon... but does anyone know if i can just ask the dentist to take this tooth out, as its not particuarly necessary (being right at the back), its full of 'oles and fillings and erm, i dont want it any more!

If it's already had root treatment then there will probably be very little choice than to take it out.  If not he might be able to do root treatment and try and save it.

i hope dentist just hoicks it out.... my teeth are very crumbly and dont stand up well to being filled.......

as for t-cut man, havent heard a thing, so presuming everything is as ok as its gonna be..... if its not im sure he will get in touch!

If you want it out, you can ask him to remove it.  It's your tooth after all.  I had a similar problem with a back tooth.  My dentist kept trying to save it, but in the end I had to go back in agony and have it removed.

Em  :-) the dentist won't want to take it out unless he has no option, they don't these days . If you take a tooth out and leave a gap there is nothing to support the other teeth and they tend to move slightly, this can cause problems. Dentists prefer to do crowns. I know from my own experience, my old dentist (who was mad and eventually hung himself years ago) made a total mess of mine, he had the idea if you filled all of a childs teeth they would not go bad but the fillings fall out at the slightest provoction (or toffee) I told sane dentist to get rid of the blessed things and he said no crowns!!! Have 4 crowns soon to be five :-)

You can only get a crown in you have the roots still there reddoor, so if the tooth's already had root treatment there will be no roots for the crown.

my crazy dentist filled all my teeth when I was a kid too..well put a "protective" sealer over them..and left decay in there!! ah dentists are fab arent they!!

well, i survived!

dentist thinks probably best not to take tooth out, as the ones in front of it have got some serious fillings and this one is pretty much holding them all together!

not quite as bad as i thought it was, part of the tooth had crumbled, in a weak spot that is hard to brush and was previously damaged by my impacted (and since removed) wisom teeth.

However, i got shouted at for not keeping up my appointments as ive been having a lot lately to sort out some decay and stuff, and the really bad news is, my lovely irish dentist has a new job and is buggering off back to Ireland....... tisnt fair, she is ace!

oh well, mebbes the new one will be a nice young man, hee hee.
