i have to questions first my japanese akita is one year old he shows no sign or attention to strangers is that normal which i really dont mind at all,the reason for asking that question is i read in books and heard from people that they r hard to handle etc,but i have had no probelms.

and at what age do they lift there leg to do the bussiness.

Akitas are like people - they are all different! At a year old, your Akita is nowhere near mature, so you don't know what his temperament will be yet. My dog looks on every human as a potential friend, but he does also assess potential "threats" now he's older and more discerning. If he doesn't take any notice of people, that's not a problem, but how is he when people approach you or come to your house? Maybe he's just not a very sociable dog, but I would keep an eye on his attitude, Akitas are not always easy to "read". They are very trainable if you are used to dogs and very firm from the beginning.
He will start cocking his leg anytime in the next 6 months, but they don't do it all the time - they are very lazy dogs!

i think akitas mature at around 18 months old or plus.

He will mature between 18 months and 3 years, that is when they "find their feet" so to say. Try and socialise him loads and let him meet "strangers", you really need to let him see the world outside to know how to behave in it.

My two akita's are an absolute dream with people, they may grumble if they don't know you until you stroke them they then realise "oh this is a good person".

My pal has a 3 year old male and he is just starting to "fully mature". If he is showing a good temperament now then make sure you keep it like that by lots of training and meeting new people.
