Hi,

I have a bitch who is 10 months old and I wanted your opinions on whether it is too soon to introduce another dog. We got our bitch rather quickly as a breeder had a couple pull out at the last minute. However, we have been on another breeders waiting list for over a year now, as I really liked the lines behind the mating. So I was wondering if it was okay to get a pup from this mating (I have spoken to the breeder and told her we have a 10 month old bitch and she is okay with it)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

A good deal depends on the breed and how far you have got with the training & bonding with the pup you have. In general I would say it is too soon, the pup you have will be getting into the teenage stage any time now, if it has not already. Have found that waiting till the youngest is at least 2 works best but if you have the time and courage it will work although it is possible that both pups and you will miss out on the bonding.

Hi guest  :-) you don't say what breed you dog is...if there are two people in your house and you can both give time to train that would be ok , as Jackie says your first dog is still very young and will probably not be fully trained yet. If you get a puppy both dogs may bond with each other rather than with you, also you will need to put time aside to train each dog seperately, not impossible but not always easy. When the first dog is older it will have bonded with you and should be trained.
